Yesterday we witnessed the long-awaited and long-awaited release of Windows 10 Mobile stable for the "old" Windows Phone 8.1 devices.
The hopes of many have been rekindled: in fact, Windows 10 Mobile is an operating system very similar to its desktop counterpart that could put many owners of Windows Phone 8.1 terminals at ease ... but not all, since Windows Mobile 10 will not arrive for everyone who meets the announced minimum requirements.
Actually.
The list of smartphones that will receive Windows 10 Mobile as an official update from Windows Phone 8.1 (in addition to those that are already born with the new operating system on board) is the following:
- Lumia 1520;
- Lumia 930;
- Lumia 640 e 640 XL;
- Lumia 730 and 735;
- Lumia 830;
- Lumia 430 and 435;
- Lumia 532 and 535;
- Lumia 540;
- Lumia 635, 636, 638 (all in the 1 GB RAM version);
- BLU Win HD W510u;
- BLU Win HD LTE X150q;
- MCJ Madosma Q501.
They therefore remain off the list all smartphones with a quantity of RAM equal to 512 MB - as Microsoft reiterated on Twitter - and others terminals that meet the specific requests but that, from the feedback, they were not suitable for receiving the update - such as the Lumia 925, 928, 1320 and 1020 - which even has 2 GB of RAM.
In other words, Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones not listed above will NOT receive Windows 10 Mobile as an official update but they will have to settle for the Insider Preview.
However, bad news also arrives at this juncture: Microsoft has in fact decided to channel attention only to a limited range of smartphones also for the Insider Preview; the smartphones are the following (those already born with Windows 10 Mobile, which participate by right, are missing from the list):
- Lumia 1520;
- Lumia 930;
- Lumia 640 e 640 XL;
- Lumia 730 and 735;
- Lumia 830;
- Lumia 430 and 435;
- Lumia 532 and 535;
- Lumia 540;
- Lumia 635, 636, 638 (all in the 1 GB RAM version);
- BLU Win HD W510u;
- BLU Win HD LTE X150q;
- MCJ Madosma Q501;
- Xiaomi Mi 4.
all other smartphones not included in the list but already participating in the Insider program, Insider Preview updates they will continue for a fixed time frame (we still don't know which one), after which no updates or new features will be delivered - at that point, the only way to have a stable system is to go back to Windows Phone 8.1.
In fact, Microsoft's "promises" and the stated minimum requirements suggested a wider range of devices supported by this update ...
Patience, it will be for next time. Or maybe not.
