When is Magikarp Community Day in Pokémon GO
Magikarp Community Day will take place in Pokémon GO on Saturday, August 8 starting at 11 a.m. local time. These events only lasted a few hours, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced many changes at Niantic. One of them is the extension of the hours of the community day. You will therefore be able to play until 17 p.m. to catch a Magikarp increase and enjoy other benefits.
What's up for Magikarp Community Day
Like previous Community Days, there is a lot going on during these special hours. The main draw for many will be the increased number of Magikarp spawns and shine rate, but skip if that's all you want. There's also tons of special research to enjoy, including a paid quest called Making a Splash. Is it worth buying? The main reward appears to be a pile of Magikarp candy. Since you need 400 of them to evolve a single Gyarados, if that matters to you, it probably is. Along with this, the incense activated during the event will last for three hours, and catching Pokémon will give you 3 times the usual stardust. Benefits so great that you will probably want to take advantage. But what about the big price?
Comment attraper Shiny Magikarp
Each community day seems to come down to the special Shiny Pokémon on offer. While you are not guaranteed a shiny Magikarp during the event, if you play enough you can rest quite easily. The key is to simply encounter as many Magikarp as possible during the six hour event. Frankincense will likely be key here, thanks to the increased uptime and increased respawn rate since the start of the pandemic. Make sure you have two incense ready to be activated during Community Day if you want that shiny Magikarp.
Once you have some active incense, it's really a matter of checking out every Magikarp that spawns (you also get brighter odds with the Making a Splash ticket). Tap on it to meet them and see if they are shiny. Otherwise, and if you don't need more Magikarp candy, you can back off to save time. If you're not sure what you checked this way, just see if they've turned to face your character. If so, you have already checked them. Beyond that, your only real chance to catch a Shiny Magikarp is to focus on special research. Hit Poké Stops if it's safe to do so, and complete anything that rewards an encounter. If it's Magikarp, there's a good chance it's brilliant. Once you have a Shiny Magikarp, you might want to evolve it into Shiny Gyarados, as there are some special things there as well.
What is the Magikarp Community Day Special Movement
If you have a shiny (or non-shiny) Magikarp, 400 candies, and you want to evolve them into Gyarados, you can do that during the event or two hours after to get a special charge attack. All evolved Gyarados during these hours will have Aqua Tail, a unique water attack that they normally cannot learn otherwise. It's not particularly useful in raids or other circumstances, although PvP fighters always like to have surprises for their enemies. In the end, it looks more like a trophy than anything else, but you can always turn it into something else. You cannot collect Aqua Tail any other way, until a special event brings it back.
