Pokémon Snap is returning for players who have missed it since its initial release on Nintendo 64. The new game is coming to Nintendo Switch, with plenty of new features, gameplay, and a new generation of Pokémon for players to take a picture of. as they roam around the island. While the title was briefly announced during a Pokémon Presents on June 17, many fans are already excited about the limited details.
What is the release date?
The new Pokémon Snap game has an undisclosed release date, and as of this writing we have little or no indication of when it might arrive on Nintendo Switch. During the Pokémon Presents live stream, the brief gameplay preview we received didn't have a timeline or season we could expect when it arrived. Hopefully we can expect this around winter 2020 or spring 2021.
What new Pokémon will appear?
During the Pokémon Presents stream, we got to see a handful of the available Pokémon that we'll be taking photos of during our adventures. One of those Pokémon was Scorbunny, a starting Pokémon from the Sword and Shield Games. Given that Scorbunny was available to capture onscreen, it's a good indication that we'll be seeing a variety of Pokémon from both older and newer games.
What does the gameplay look like in Pokémon Snap?
In Pokémon Snap, you'll walk around with a camera and take photos of Pokémon in their natural habitat. It is very different from other Pokemon games, where you have to capture them and fight them against other trainers. Pokémon Snap is a more natural experience with the title where players can observe Pokémon enjoying their time outdoors, with unique forms of nature. We don't know much about the new game, for example if you will be given tasks to take pictures of Pokémon or if you have to visit specific places.
Will it be multiplayer or cooperative?
With Pokémon Snap arriving on the Nintendo Switch platform, players can expect to have the option of capturing photos of various Pokémon with their friends. However, the choice to have multiplayer in the game has not been announced. If you were to visit the main Pokémon Snap on Nintendo's website, the player count for the game says "to be determined." Based on the initial announcement, we don't know if co-op or any other form of multiplayer will be available.
Who is developing the game?
HAL Laboratory was the original developer of the first Pokémon Snap games. However, the new Pokémon Snap is managed by Bandai Namco.
We'll update this guide with additional information as we learn it.
