In the last few years Instagram has experienced continuous expansion, to become the most used social network in the world. The definitive leap was also made thanks to Stories, a function "stolen" a little from Snapchat, which however has definitively consecrated Instagram as the most popular social network.
We all use Instagram Stories, or in any case we know how they work, they are photos or videos that we can share with our followers and that remain for only 24 hours. What many are asking, however, is how the list of views of the Stories is managed, is it random or is there an algorithm behind it that makes you see more followers than others?
How Instagram Stories Are Sorted
In fact the list of views to our History it is not random, but it follows specific criteria. Usually Instagram tends to privilege the profiles with which we interact the most: so it is likely that the stories you often see at the top are those of the pages and profiles that you like most, comment on or interact.
So Instagram, or rather hers algorithm, manages to understand which users we are most constant in interacting with and places them at the top. In summary, therefore, the criteria taken into consideration are:
- our interactions with profiles;
- how often we check profile stories.
Why this? Well, Instagram itself stated that it's all made for "help you view the content that matters most to you". Finally, the algorithm also takes into account factors such as:
- time;
- relations;
- interests.
What are "interactions"?
I have often repeated this term but I have not yet explained what it means. By Instagram interaction, I mean any action you take on a profile:
- a simple view to a user's profile;
- like;
- comments;
- viewing posts;
- viewing of stories;
- replies to stories.
So even if you never comment on a profile or like it, but view it often or view its stories, it is very likely that it will appear at the top of the suggested stories.
In what order are the profiles that watch our stories listed?
Here's another question you often ask me: how the display order of the profiles that see our stories is managed. Once we publish a Story, we will be able to enter the list of views simply by viewing it and swiping it upwards. What many will ask is: how is this list generated?
In fact the list of views to our History it is not random, but it follows specific criteria. The watershed are the number of views, in fact, if our story does not have many views, the list will appear in chronological order, with the last person who opened our history in the first position.
When, on the other hand, our Instagram Story begins to have more views, things change. The display order is no longer chronological, but the Instagram algorithm it tends to make you see the users with whom you have had the most interactions in the first positions. The interactions must also be reciprocal, it is very likely that if you like and comment on each other with another user, it will appear in the top position in the list of views of the Stories.
If the your profile is connected with that of Facebook, and also that of your followers, Instagram will tend to make you see yours in the first positions close friends on Facebook, that is, those with whom you have had the most interactions over time.
What seems to matter most in the order of display is the number of times that particular follower visits our Instagram profile. So whoever visits your profile the most will appear higher in the viewing order.
As we have seen, therefore, theDisplay order of our Instagram Stories is anything but random, and can also give us a lot of feedback on those who often look at our profile, so that we can also identify some “suspicious” or unwanted profile.
