Mega Evolution Pokémon are coming to Pokémon Go. These incredibly powerful Pokémon will improve every aspect of your Pokémon for a limited time. We have an idea of which Pokémon will receive the first Mega Evolutions, but more are likely in the works. Mega Raids are another feature launched alongside a Trainer's Pokémon that gains the ability from Mega Evolve.
We are currently speculating on the exact details. However, the datamining group, Pokeminers, have been working hard through Pokémon Go. They have discovered a handful of features and shared them in various Reddit Posts.
The Pokeminers have discovered that Mega Raids are a special raid where a group of trainers must work together to defeat one of the most powerful Mega Evolved Pokémon. It probably looks like a five-star raid where a Legendary Pokémon is available for a limited time and Trainers must band together using their best Pokémon to take them down. Mega Raids will be separated from Five Star Raids. They could potentially allow Trainers to use their Mega Evolved Pokémon during combat if they have them available.
The reward for completing these raids can vary, such as allowing Trainers to capture a Mega Evolved Pokémon to add to their collection. We know that completing this challenge grants you access to Mega Candy. Mega Candy is another detail that Pokeminers have discovered. This is probably what Trainers should use to evolve their Pokémon to their Mega Forms, but we're not sure. It's a limited-time mode, however, and doesn't last forever.
Players will likely experience mega raids the same way they find standard raids. It comes with a unique symbol to show that it's not like traditional raiding. We'll update this page with more details when Niantic officially announces them.
