Modders have always been one of the biggest parts of the Minecraft community, and Minecraft creation tools have been helping parkour and adventure map makers for a long time with customizable entities. That said, there's a complete overhaul coming with the Caves & Cliffs update.
One of the coolest things about updating is that all kinds of changes you could apply to features, now you can apply to elements and blocks as well. Before, mods like these didn't have an in-game integration system, but now new blocks, textures, and effects can be fully integrated into a map the same way as entities.

It will also be the same system, so modders who have worked with entities in the past will already be familiar with creating, mixing, and matching effects. You can even report actions while ticks are growing or decaying objects like plants or maybe clumps like new copper.
Another cool feature added to the authoring tools is object locking. If you are on an adventure map and need to collect important items like keys or gems which if you accidentally drop you cannot complete the map, the creator can choose to lock that item in. your inventory.

All in all, the new authoring tools add new integrations and features that will make being a creator more exciting, more open, and less frustrating, so why not try creating custom cards?
