The new camera features of the new iPhone 11
Three new iPhones were launched in September 2019:
- iPhone 11: dual camera (wide-angle and ultra-wide angle) and 6,1-inch display;
- iPhone 11 Pro: triple camera (wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto) and 5,8-inch display;
- iPhone 11 Pro Max: Triple camera (wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto) and 6,5-inch display.
The iPhone 11 has a dual camera consisting of a wide-angle and an ultra-wide-angle camera. The camera ultra wide angle it's a novelty in the Apple world and also one of the biggest innovations of this year's iPhones. Never before have iPhones been able to take such large photos, except through the use of external accessories.
Unlike the iPhone 11, its fellow iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max possess a triple camera module, consisting of a wide-angle, an ultra-wide-angle and a telephoto camera.
However, the two main cameras are identical in all three models and all have the following features:
- Rear camera and 12 megapixel front camera;
- Portrait mode with depth control;
- New night mode to capture great photos in low or bad light conditions;
- Improved Smart HDR for better exposure and finer details;
- Foto Live, Time Lapse, Panoramica, Slow-motion;
- Video recording up to 4K 60FPS with optical stabilization;
- Improved photo editing tools;
- Ability to edit videos directly from the Photos app;
Double Camera
The first thing to know is that this dual camera is different from the dual camera found in the iPhone XS and previous models in that these models had a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens. The new version, the one present in the iPhones, consists of a wide angle lens and an ultra wide angle lens. The wide-angle lens is the usual lens found in all iPhones, but this year it gets even better. As for the second lens, we find an ultra wide-angle lens, a new arrival at Apple that allows you to take pictures with a much wider field of vision.
This camera is very useful for landscapes, confined spaces, interiors or group photos.
Triple camera
Now let's talk about the triple camera present in the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, which turns out to be identical for both models.
The triple camera is made up of the same dual camera found in the iPhone 11, but in addition it also has a telephoto lens.
This telephoto lens allows you to take pictures using a 2x zoom to take pictures closer to the subject without loss of detail.
Night mode
Another big news regarding the photographic sector is the new one night mode.
Taking photographs at night or in any case in low light conditions turns out to be very complicated and, usually, being the lenses mounted on smartphones very small, there is a high loss of detail. Lack of light could lead to exposure, graining and blur issues. With the intention of solving this problem, the night mode was born, with which you can take very detailed photos even in low or bad light conditions, thanks to the very intelligent use of the software. The moment you press the shutter button, the smartphone will take a series of photos at different exposures and, subsequently, will combine the best parts of each photo into a single image via software.
The night mode is present in all three models of the iPhone 11, and the best thing is that it will activate itself in low light conditions, you don't have to think about it.
Enhanced portrait mode
La portrait mode has been present in iPhones for a few years now, but in the latest models it has been improved further.
This portrait mode allows you to blur the background in photos taken with your iPhone, a blur that can be increased or decreased in post production.
The major implementation, however, is the one made in portrait lighting mode, present in the iPhone 8 Plus and later. Thanks to this mode it is possible to add light effects to the photo taken in portrait mode, just like in a photo studio.
In older iPhones it was not possible to control the position or intensity of the light, but in the new iPhones 11 this changes. In the new models it is in fact possible to adjust the position and intensity of the effects, and this allows you to have more control over your photos.
An effect called High ‑ Key Light Mono is also added which allows you to create a portrait with a photo studio black and white effect.
Advanced Smart HDR
THEHDR helps you to capture better colors and details in high contrast scenes.
This function has been present for several years in the iPhones but Apple ensures that in these new iPhone 11 this function uses advanced technologies to make the most of HDR.
The key is that this iPhone recognizes faces in your photos, and treats them differently from the rest of the image. The new camera software brings brightness and detail to faces and at the same time keeps the vibrant colors in the background. This way the faces will have a much more natural skin color but the background colors will not be affected.
Redesigned camera application
All iPhone 11 models feature aredesigned camera app where you can switch between lenses only using the zoom options. The interface also shows what happens outside the frame, so what we would see if we were using the wide-angle camera.
Very high quality video
Apple claims that the new iPhone 11 are the best smartphones of the moment in terms of video recording quality, which occurs at the maximum in 4K at 60FPS.
During recording you can easily switch from one lens to another (option available up to 4K 30FPS) to create special effects. A novelty is certainly the fact that now you can easily start recording a video directly from the photo interface, simply by holding down the shutter button and swiping to the right if we wish to continue shooting.
Selfie in Slow-motion (Slofies)
If you love to record slow-mo videos of your surroundings, you'll be very happy to know that in the new iPhone 11 you can also record slow-mo from the internal camera, and Apple calls these videos “Slofies”.
Improved photo editing in the Photos app
The camera app has been redesigned, and instead what about the app Gallery many editing tools have been added. Now the Photos app becomes a real photo editor as it has all the tools for image correction, every control and every filter.
New tools for video editing
Do you often record videos with your iPhone? Do you like to create small movies, maybe holidays with your family?
You will be happy to know that you can now publishing your videos directly from the Photos app as it now has all the most important tools and effects for video editing. For example, you can adjust the color and exposure of your videos, rather than cropping or rotating them.
