Borderlands 3's latest event focuses on Valentine's Day, a day typically devoted to caring for and showing affection to loved ones. The event doesn't include any of that, instead having you destroy hearts floating around the galaxy. Maurice, the sensitive Saurian of Sanctuary III, wants to know more about the customs of love, but he indulges in it in a unique way.
When you jump into your Borderlands 3 from February 13 to February 20, the event should be underway and you can start destroying hearts. You should see them above the heads of the enemy, floating in the air. When you see them, you want to shoot them and destroy them. Destroying hearts causes a small area of effect explosion, hitting nearby enemies. When you break a heart, you should hear Maurice talk about it.
The different colored hearts have unique effects. Some of them will transform an enemy by your side and become an ally. Others explode in a mess of fire, damaging anything nearby. The effects vary depending on the design of the heart. You can even break hearts and detonate loot. Either way, your job is to destroy all the hearts you see, and Maurice will reward you for your hard work. You have until February 20 to destroy any hearts you come across.
You have the option to leave the event. To do this, go back to the main menu of your Borderlands 3 game and choose the Vault Hunter you want to play. Before you jump into the game, you should see an option to turn off the event. Clicking on it turns off all hearts and you shouldn't see them floating anymore. However, if you join an online game with a friend and they haven't deactivated the event, the heart returns.
