During the PlayStation 5 showcase, we got to see our first look at how 2K Sports is using next-gen capabilities to enhance the next iteration of the NBA 2K series.
However, as with every version of NBA 2K, it will not only appear on the PS5, but will be available on every modern gaming platform.
That doesn't just lock it down on PS5 or Xbox Series X, because like 2K has done in the past, there will be versions of the latest entry on PS4 and Xbox One to keep that playerbase alive a bit more. long time. Of course, that means these versions will lose key features that build on next-gen technology and perform at a lower level, but that has always been the case with intergenerational versions.
unlike Madden, which has seen different release dates in the past, 2K has a pretty solid window nailed for when it releases all of its NBA 2K games.
NBA 2K18 released on September 15, 2K19 on September 7, and the most recent version, 2K20 on September 6. In line with that model, 2K21 is slated to launch on September 11 this year, with potential delays pushing it back due to COVID-19 impacting development also on the table.
When it comes to consoles, you can expect the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions of 2K20 to perform incredibly well with all new tech, providing insane improvements to the game. 2K already promises two-second load times on next-gen consoles, which should make for a much smoother experience.
However, the game is also expected to be released for PS4 and Xbox One, although it is not clear in what state these versions will be released. Previously, 2K removed game modes and other content to allow the game to run on the latest generation machines, so in addition to slowing down performance there could be some missing features as well.
We'll also have to wait and see if the Nintendo Switch gets a downgraded version of the game at launch as well, but for now we can at least hope for some improvements on next-gen versions of the franchise.
