Death Stranding is filled with lost cargo. It's everywhere, discarded by other porters who failed to get the job done. You can collect the lost cargo and try to transport it to its destination, but sometimes there can be too much. What are you doing then? Well, you can, if you want, find a mailbox and hand over the lost cargo.
Should you entrust lost cargo to a Death Stranding?
Entrusting your load means that you make it available to other players. In any distribution center or mailbox you can choose “Entrust Cargo for Delivery”. If you do this, the cargo will be left there, in a shared locker, which other players can access. If they wish, they can take the cargo and deliver it to its destination, which gives you both a few tastes.
You won't get the same tastes and rating as if you delivered it yourself, but you will get if the load is delivered. And this is where it gets risky. It is possible that the cargo will never be picked up by another player and never delivered. You will be at the mercy of other players and how useful they might be.
The Entrust system is one of the most obvious ways for different players to share the world and try to cooperate to get all packages delivered. If you have a delivery that absolutely needs to reach its destination, you'd better take it yourself. If you keep finding too many lost cargo and can't haul it all, using Entrust the cargo mailboxes is a good idea. You can also take it to the fulfillment centers and leave it there if you decide the last leg of a trip is too long, or if you end up with a massive delivery to move the story forward.
