You recently found some photos on your computer that you would like to be able to improve by applying some small corrections in order to make them more beautiful and captivating. Unfortunately, however, you have not yet been able to identify a resource that can meet your needs and, above all, that is free and in British. I'm wrong? No, here it is. What can I say then, it happens just like a bean! In fact, with this article of mine today I intend to illustrate to you all those who in my humble opinion are the best programs to retouch free photos in British and, contrary to what you might think, I assure you that there are quite a few to choose from.
How do you say? Are you interested in this but are you afraid of not being able to know how to use them? Come on, don't be a coward now! It is true, to master them at best you need to do a little practice and maybe even have a good knowledge of the basic image editing concerts but they can assure you that by following my tips and starting to experience the various functions in a short time you will be able to master them to the fullest.
Then? How about finally putting the chatter aside and taking action? Yup? Great! So make yourself comfortable in front of your trusty computer, carefully read the instructions below and you will see that in the end you will be happy and satisfied with the thing. Happy reading and have fun!
GIMP (Windows / Mac / Linux)
The first software of the category that I want to suggest you to try is GIMP. That you have never heard of it is practically impossible considering the fact that it is one of the best alternatives at no cost, of an open source nature and moreover in British to the renowned Adobe Photoshop. In any case, the program offers a wide range of very useful functions to carry out the most varied photo editing operations and is able to return professional and noteworthy results.
It includes a slew of customizable brushes, allows you to apply filters and adjustment effects to images, insert text on photos, work on multiple layers and much more. It also has a simple but well-structured user interface and can be used on both Windows and Mac as well as Linux.
To download the program, the first thing you need to do is to go to the official GIMP website, press the button Download 2.x.xx which is on top and then on orange button located further down to start the download immediately.
Once the download is complete, start the file obtained and follow the setup procedure that is proposed to you. If you are using a Windows PC, first click on Si, Then Install and subsequently on end. If, on the other hand, you are using a Mac you simply have to drag the icon of the software attached to the package .dmg obtained in the folder Applications say macOS.
Starting the program you will then see three windows appear: on the left the bar with the tools to edit the images, to intervene on their advanced adjustments and the color palette; in the center an empty window in which you can view the photos to be edited once opened and on the right another toolbar with advanced commands for managing the levels, the history of changes and other tools that with time and due practice you will learn to use.
Further commands are available in the upper part of the central window of the program through which you can open the image on which to act, make changes, select it, change the colors, etc. For further information, I suggest you read my tutorial on how to use GIMP through which I proceeded to talk to you in great detail about this software and its functions.
Krita (Windows/Mac/Linux)
Let's move on to now Chalk, a top free, open source and British language program entirely dedicated to the art of photo editing and drawing. It is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux, and for Microsoft operating systems it is also available in a version that does not require installation.
It has a very pleasant and well-organized user interface, it integrates numerous tools typical of the aforementioned GIMP (and therefore also of Photoshop), filters of all kinds and supports all the main graphic formats. Among other functions, I would like to point out the possibility to quickly choose colors and brushes to use so that you can take advantage of your favorite ones on the fly. In short, why not try it now?
To download it to your computer, connected to the program's website, click on the button GET KRITA NOW at the top, make sure the tab is selected on the new page displayed Windows (and if not, I tried you) and then presses the button 64-bit Portable to download the 64-bit no-install version of the program or click the link 32-bit Portable to download the “classic” 32-bit version of the software. Once the download is complete, extract the archive to any location ZIP obtained, double-click the link chalk present inside it and authorizes the execution of the program by pressing on apri in response to the warning you see appearing on the desktop.
If you are using a Mac instead, after clicking the button GET KRITA NOW Make sure the tab is selected on the new web page that appears Mac OS X (and if not, select it by clicking on it) and then press the button download for free. Then open the package .dmg just obtained and drag the program icon inside it into the folder Applications from the Mac.
Starting the program you will immediately find yourself in front of its main interface. On the right you will find the bar with all the tools available: the one to add text, lines, squares and other geometric elements, the eyedropper, the bucket tool etc .; On the right you will find the section for managing the selection of colors and levels, while at the top there is the toolbar to select shades, fill patterns, opacity and so on. Using the menu bar even higher you can open the image on which to act and adjust various other parameters and options.
PhotoScape (Windows/Mac)
Usable on both Windows and Mac, Photoscape represents one of the best free and British language resources available on the market for photo editing in the non-professional field. The interface is simple and intuitive and the commands to correct and embellish multiple photos. It allows you to work with digital images in a complete and satisfactory way, supporting almost all the formats available on the market.
In the specific case of the Mac version, however, it must be taken into account that the program is not completely free and has some differences in terms of UI and tools available compared to Windows. In any case, all the basic functions can be used without spending a single euro so… don't worry be happy!
To download it on your PC, connected to the program's website, click on the tab free Download which is at the top and presses the green button Download Now which is on the left. Then wait for the download of the software installation file to start and complete, then start it and click on Si, then presses the button I Agree – Install in the window you see appearing on your desktop, remove the check mark for installing Google Drive (not necessary for the program to work) and click on Next. To conclude, press on Finish.
If you are using a Mac instead, linked to this page of the Mac App Store Onlineclick on your button View in the Mac App Store and once the Mac App Storeand on the computer desk he presses the button Ottieni / Installa at the top left (if requested, also enter your Apple ID password).
Then start PhotoScape (if it doesn't open by itself) and start using the various functions available to edit your photos as you see fit. In the case of the Windows version, indicate, from the screen that is shown to you, the type of activity you intend to carry out (eg. Editor o Combine photos), then select the image you want to act on using the appropriate section on the left and use the various tools at the bottom or on the right to make the desired changes. For example, you can change the color of the image, crop it, apply outlines, filters and much more.
In the case of the Mac version, on the other hand, drag the image you want to edit into the application window and use the tools at the top right to change the color, apply filters, add texts and so on. At the bottom there are the commands to manage the zoom and to undo and redo the changes and to save and share the image.
Adobe Photoshop Express (Windows)
In an article dedicated to the best programs to retouch free photos in British it is practically impossible not to mention Adobe Photoshop Express, the "lightened" version of the famous Photoshop including all the basic tools for editing photos and surprisingly simple to use.
It offers several interesting tools to enhance photos on the fly and apply simple retouching. It also allows you to edit images by cropping them, rotating them, flipping them, lighting them and much more. It is only available for Windows 8 and Windows 10.
To download it on your computer, connected to the relevant Internet page directly from your PC, wait for the app to open Windows Store and presses the button Get to immediately start the download and installation procedure, then click on starts. If connecting to the page I have just indicated, the Windows Store does not open automatically, force you to execute the operation by clicking on the button Download the app.
Once the Adobe Photoshop Express window is displayed on your desktop, you can choose whether to log in to your Adobe ID or create one at the moment or if you want to skip this step and immediately start editing your photos by taking them directly from the image library. Alternatively, you can take a snapshot at the moment with your PC webcam and edit that.
When you see the program editor appear, you can therefore use the various tools available in the toolbar below to automatically correct the photo, reduce noise, correct red eyes and apply filters of various kinds. You can also manually correct the image and crop it. At the bottom left you will find the buttons to view the original image on the fly and the one to save and share everything.
Other solutions
Didn't the programs for retouching photos at no cost and in British that I have proposed in the previous lines have been able to attract your attention in a particular way? - XnView MP - Its main function is that of photo viewer but in reality it also integrates many other very useful tools to manage and above all to modify images by cropping them, rotating them and correcting their colors. It is free, in British and is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
- Paint.NET - Although the name refers to the well-known Microsoft software, Paint.NET is a much more powerful program than the latter. It allows you to edit photos and images quite completely, similar to what you can do with GIMP, for free and with an interface in British. In short, simple but very functional. It is for Windows only.
- PhotoFiltre - Another excellent freeware and British program for photo editing, also available in a no-install version. It has some really cool features that make it a serious alternative to GIMP in addition to the other software already mentioned.
- Pixlr Editor - Excellent online program with an interface very similar to that of Photoshop that allows you to edit photos and images in all respects, allowing you to intervene on colors, brightness, dimensions and other various parameters, to apply filters and much more. Very easy to use, in British and free. What more could you want?
- Puddles - Another valid free online program (in its basic form) to edit photos and available in British. It offers a wide range of filters and allows you to intervene on various parameters of the photos such as color, brightness, etc. allowing to obtain very artistic results.
