DC FanDome has everything a DC Comics fan could hope for. This includes the low on the properties of upcoming video games. The first major game covered during DC FanDome was Gotham Knights. Batman's highly anticipated new game appears to focus on the bat family. The trailer begins with voiceovers illustrating reports and testimonials. It then switches to a dark video that was sent to Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood. Bruce Wayne tells them in a pre-recorded video that he's now dead.
When does Gotham Knights take place?
Spoilers ahead for Batman: Arkham Knight.
Gotham Knights actually appears to be placed after the award-winning Batman: Arkham Knight. In Arkham Knight, Batman is faced with the villain whose name the game is named after. The Knight of Arkham is revealed to be Jason Todd, who is said to have been killed by the Joker. Batman ultimately helps Todd recover. This leads to Todd helping Batman defeat the Scarecrow and save Gotham. At the end of the game, Bruce Wayne and Alfred enter Wayne Manor. The mansion then explodes, apparently killing them both.
At the start of the Gotham Knights trailer, reports and testimonials speak of an explosion in Gotham. This indicates that Gotham Knights takes place immediately after Batman: Arkham Knight. With Bruce Wayne seemingly dead, it's up to the rest of the Bat Family to defend Gotham from its gallery of villains. The first gameplay revealed for Gotham Knights shows Batgirl facing off against Mr. Freeze. The end of the trailer indicates that much of the story could be picked up by the Court of Owls.
Gotham Knights is slated to arrive in 2021, confirmed by IGN for next-gen and current-gen consoles as well as PC.
