PGA Tour 2K21: Beginner's Guide to Putting

If there is one part of golf that is essential to master, it is putting. Sure, you might be able to dominate with a pilot and hit the ball over 300 yards off a tee, but if the putting is bad your score will be bad as well. Just like with real golf, putting is essential in the PGA Tour 2K21. Knowing how to do it right can be a boon to your virtual golfer career, but not mastering it could lead to failure.

With that said, let's go over our tips to help you get started with the PGA Tour 2K21.

Don't worry about the putter pattern

The first thing you might consider doing when starting the PGA Tour 2K21 is grinding in order to upgrade your putter. This is not really necessary, however. Putters are different from other clubs in the PGA Tour 2K21 as not all models in the game have any attributes. For this reason, you won't really need to worry about what putter you have in 2K21. Of course, you can buy a new one, but there are more important things to worry about.

Know the commands

Just like with driving, you will use the left or right stick, depending on which stick you have chosen, to putt the ball. To aim the shot, use the stick you are not using to putt to aim the shot, as you would with driving. And just like with the ride, there will be a bar at the bottom that will indicate how much power you are currently expected to putt at.

To achieve the perfect power, move the stick you are using to putter until it touches the white marker, then move it up. Also, if you want to change the amount of power (or the weight of the putt, whatever name you prefer), move the stick you aren't using to either put it up (to increase the power) , or down (to decrease the power).

Bring the ball closer to the green

Let's be honest, you probably want the installation to be easy. The best way to make putting easier has nothing to do with the act itself, but rather with what you do before you get to the green. When you're on the fairway (or the rough, if it's a bad day), be sure to use the goal to get the ball as close to the cup as possible. Keep in mind, however, that you will need to watch which way the wind is blowing. For example, if the wind is blowing from right to left, you might want to move the aim to the right in order to anticipate the ball blowing on the left side of the green.

Longer putts will always be more difficult than shorter putts, so making sure you're as close to the green as possible should set you up for future success.

Watch the hills

Each golf green differs from course to course, and the trickiest are those that feature hills. The reason is two-fold: putts can turn left or right, depending on the type of coast, and the amount of power you need to hit the hole can vary. Let's focus on that last point for a second: If the cut is on top of a hill, you will need to use more power to complete the putt. But if the cut is on level ground and there is a hill in between your path, use less energy, as the decline of the hill will cause the ball to roll towards the hole. This is something you should keep in mind when putting a putt.

Back to the first point. Putts can veer left or right, depending on the terrain of the green. To find out how to play the putt, look at the points on the green grid. Shift the aim according to the direction the points are moving so that you can hit the putt.

Don't always follow recommendations

When attempting a putt, 2K21 will give you a recommendation as to the direction of the putt, as well as the power to use. These recommendations are great at first, but you shouldn't use them as an ultimate solution as you gain experience in the game. After playing the same course a few times, you will often find that the recommendations are often wrong, so keep an eye on how each course is read. The last thing you want is to miss a putt that you should hit with ease.

Remember your tendencies

In order to hit a perfectly straight putt you need to move the putting stick down and then straight up in a straight line. However, doing this over and over is difficult. The thing to remember, however, is that putting can get a lot easier if you notice your tendencies. To elaborate, suppose you notice that you tend to push a little to the right with consistency, and the ball repeatedly cuts to the right of the cup. If you can choose that, just adjust the aim to the left to compensate. This way, you can compensate for this tendency and better prepare for the holes to come.

However, do not follow these guidelines with every hole. If a coming hole has a hill that you may have to struggle with, that will affect the putt as well.

Stay calm

While it would be great to hit every putt you're going to make, it's impossible to do. Even professional golfers cannot make every putts attempted. However, you must approach each hole as if you are a professional golfer. Professional golfers are masters of staying calm, and it's essential that you do, too. Being nervous before making a big putt is pointless, as all it will do is make it harder to hit the perfect amount of power. Relax and the game will become much easier.
