When Patriot proposed us to test the new gaming headsets Viper V380 RGB I was amazed, unaware that they were entering this market.
I have known for a long time Patriot and I'm a huge fan of their memoir line RAM, so much so that I have already included them in the parts list for my new PC.
Today, dear reader, let's go and see it together Full review of the new ones Patriot Viper V380 RGB.
Patriot Viper V380 RGB • Wired gaming headphones!
I'm sure these V380RGB are just the first approach of Patriot to the world of peripherals, a sector that, in recent years, has seen the emergence of many unknown brands, so I am sure they can greatly improve their catalog.
In fact, they propose to be the top of the range as for the line headset of the brand, however, fall into a mid-level market segment, both for functionality and for price.
In this article I'm going to explain these in detail V380RGB and whether or not it is worth buying them in 2021.
Patriot Viper V380 RGB • Technical Specifications & Functions
To get started let's take a quick look at the technical specifications of these Patriot Viper V380 RGB:
Headphone type | over-ear |
Connection type | wired |
Frequency response | 100 Hz – 10.000 Hz |
Impedance | 64 ohms |
Drivers | 53 mm |
Microphone | omnidirectional with noise cancellation |
Weight/size | 310 g |
As already announced, it is a pair of wired headphones, equipped with technology Virtual Surround 7.1, a system whose utility we have boycotted several times.
They are simple gaming headphones, available at approx 80 €, with some interesting features and some flaws.
They do not feature a controller separated along the cable, the controls are moved to the back of the left pavilion, perhaps a somewhat awkward area to be accessed quickly in normal use but at least there is the volume wheel and the button to change the microphone.
Great weakness is the software, downloadable from the site, sparse and poorly managed: the features are few and yet the software manages to be rather confusing, which does not earn points in the ranking for these V380 RGB.
Patriot Viper V380 RGB • Design, materials and comfort
On the subject design I must say that I don't mind.
Overall the design is very clean, tidy, there are no cables too much in sight and the gray scale coloring makes them stand out stylish and not very tacky.
THElighting RGB it is well done, the color transitions are fluid and perform well live, obviously all manageable through the software or a small button integrated in the pavilion.
Initially, I was not convinced by the squared shape of the pavilions, then honestly I got used to it and I intended it more as a distinctive sign, certainly appreciated.
However, if at the level of lines it struck me, at the level of materials it was not exactly like that.
I materials, unfortunately, they are not great, it is almost entirely in plastic, both the body and the details of the joints; the only difference is the headband which is made of aluminum but does not appear to be very robust.
I pavilions, as well as the arch, are covered with a leatherette matte soft to the touch and padded in memory foam, certainly comfortable to use but now we all know the disadvantages of this type of material in the long term.
The microphone is detachable, which I appreciate because in streaming sessions I can remove it and use a condenser microphone without intrigue.
Patriot Viper V380 RGB • Sound and microphone quality
How user experience instead I didn't mind, both in gaming and leisure, to watch movies or chat with friends.
They are rather closed, then they isolate enough from the outside world, a feature more or less sought after according to preferences, for example it does not drive me crazy.
La sound quality instead it is good, perhaps better than my old Razer Kraken PRO V2, as they turn out to have a cleaner sound and more important bass, perhaps also thanks to the isolation.
They therefore remain a lot faithful in reproduction of highs, mediums and lows, which, in my opinion should be a fundamental feature for a self-respecting headset.
As regards the Virtual Surround 7.1 did not leave me speechless, both because I do not play many titles that exploit this technology, and because, as we have reiterated several times, it turns out to be a bit overrated.
Finally, the quality of the microphone is decent for use in voice chat, it's not the cleanest microphone I've ever heard but to talk in game it's fine, for streaming or voice over I suggest you aim for something else.
Moreover, not being equipped with a pop filter, even the noise reduction it can't do much against the distortions generated.
In software coupled there is also a nice feature that distorts the voice, according to various setups; certainly not an important feature but it is really fun when you are in the company.
Patriot Viper V380 RGB • Conclusion
In conclusion, I can say that these Patriot Viper V380 RGB I'm not sorry, they are certainly not the best pair of headphones I've ever tried but they are not to be ignored either.
Qualitatively they are decent but have some flaws that penalize them.
First of all, the fact that every product has a software dedicated, therefore, if you bought all the peripherals Patriot, there is no hub from which you can manage them in full: you must have at least three different software, which in my opinion is a great nonsense, especially when compared with the competitors.
Furthermore, this the software for the V380RGB turns out to be too thin, confusing and unprofessional, settings and features are few but handled the wrong way.
Finally, as regards the price, it is around 80 € on Amazon, too few to ensure high functionality and too many to compete with the competition.
Bottom line, I wouldn't buy these Patriot Viper V380 because at the same price or almost at the same price you can access products from more specialized brands with years of experience in the sector, including Logitech, Corsair e HyperX.
