One of the fundamental functions of Chromecast and devices Android TV (some TV Boxes and Smart TVs), it is the Google cast that is a true evolution of Miracast. Compared to that protocol, it allows not only to see the screen of a device, but also the direct transmission of contents (all using the help of Google's servers).
It is an excellent technology, easily implemented in apps and therefore now widespread in the clients of many services, from Netflix to Spotify. Unfortunately, it is easy to implement transmission, but not reception at all, so much so that only Google devices can receive.
Surely Google will never extend its Cast to Amazon devices, also given the ongoing war between the two giants.
So how do you make your Fire TV a Google Cast receiver?
Fortunately, as usual, users and coders do not give up, and have found a way to create a partially functional receiver app, CastReceiver. Unfortunately only partially because without the approval of Google you cannot use its servers so only services that do not require DRM or work locally tend to work.
So typically Google apps and DRM-protected video streaming services won't want to.
In fact, to date, CastReceiver it works decently with local screen, card and video streaming. Some have also reported Spotify as working but I, personally, have not succeeded.
We sincerely hope that development continues and that the developers manage to improve stability and compatibility.
Meanwhile, you can find the updated APK of CastReceiver here and you can install it easily via Apps2Fire.
Once installed, just launch it to have the receiver active, if you want to know more about CastReceiver you can consult this post on xda.
