The Always Be Closing Evolved limited-time game mode is now available in Apex Legends, rewriting the rules of battle royale to make it less friendly for snipers and campers. Instead of closing in an unpredictable pattern over a series of turns, the ring continually closes during the match and the final zone is displayed on the map from the start.
Here are some essential tips to help you win more Always Be Closing matches.
Use the right captions
As always in Apex Legends, you need to use the legends that best match your preferred playstyle. That said, there are some captions that are decidedly more useful in Always Be Closing. It would be Caustic, Gibraltar, Bangalore and Loba. While the top three excel at area denial and damage distribution, Loba is excellent at preparing his team for a run. This makes these captions ideal for fashion.
On the other hand, avoid using Pathfinder and Crypto in Always Be Closing. With the final zone still visible, Pathfinder essentially plays without a passive ability. Its ultimate Zipline may see limited use, but it's still relatively disappointing. For its part, Crypto's kit is just a little too slow for the pace of the mode.
Use the right tools
Regardless of how the match unfolds, Always Be Closing will eventually see players face off in a tight circle. This is true for Apex Legends matches too, but it happens much earlier in this mode. This means that the utility of sniper rifles is very short lived. Make sure you have a reliable shotgun or SMG for the final showdown.
Also enjoy the new Graffiti Mod hop-up. This hop-up has just been added to Apex Legends as a teaser for Rampart, and it improves the magazine size and reload speed of the Spitfire, on top of the bonuses granted by extended mags. When fully built and assembled, the Spitfire has 63 rounds in the magazine and recharges very quickly. This weapon is still far from meta, but if there was a time to use it, it's now.
Playing the ring
Since you can see the endgame area from the start, you should be able to plan your landing. Make sure you land in a loot-rich area somewhere not too close to the last circle, unless you really want to get bored. Gear up quickly, then head to the edge of the ring. As it closes, it will force players towards the center, allowing you to ambush and take them out quickly.
Always Be Closing Evolved will be available until August 18, when Apex Legends Season 6 launches.
