Will Media Molecule dreams come to PC?

After a long wait of seven years, Dreams is finally available for PS4. Media Molecule's game was originally announced at the 2013 PlayStation reunion where the current console was revealed and now, just a few months before the PS5's launch, it manages to hit the market.

The title, which comes with a powerful tool that allows you to make games and share them with the community while playing those of strangers, has been on the market for about ten months in an early access state. This is the first case of an early access release for PlayStation 4, and has proven to be quite successful.

By June, at least 100 users had participated in the early access version, which was a good result considering that the slots were limited. In addition, "the quality of the community is amazing, which we were really hoping for," Creative Director Mark Healey told MCV UK several weeks after release.

The particular control scheme, originally based exclusively on the DualShock 4's gyroscope (the final version lets you choose from that and a classic analog stick-based system), and the powerful editor have always aroused curiosity in the PC community, and this affinity could earlier or later invite Sony and Media Molecule to launch a personal computer version.

Is Dreams coming to PC?

Healey discussed the odds of a PC version for Dreams in an interview with VGC, saying the game is not in development for that specific platform. However, any decision in this matter would rest with Sony, which opens up many possibilities for the future.

“I think that would be cool,” he said. "I mean obviously Sony has an opinion on this but yeah, I think, I don't know where it's going to go in the future, I mean it would be great to see that." He added that it would be "great" for that to happen, but also that there is nothing moving towards that end.

“It's not something going on right now,” the creative director continued, “but I think a lot of it depends on where the game industry is heading in general, I guess. say, I think Sony has become more open lately to release stuff to the PC in general anyway, right? Ain't there some things going on I don't am not sure? "

Indeed, something is changing, at least according to the latest reports. Sony is said to be more open when it comes to the PC platform to increase the user base of its exclusive games, and this is reflected in cross-platform titles like Predator: Hunting Grounds and supposedly older games such as Horizon. : Zero Dawn to transport on PC.

Interestingly, in the aftermath of this report, Eurogamer's Tom Phillips also said that he knew Something Dreams could possibly come to PC shortly after Horizon: Zero Dawn. So there is at least a small chance that Media Molecule will know something but can't specifically talk about it now that the game is out on PS4 after this long wait.

What about Dreams for PS5?

With the PS5 supporting backwards compatibility with PlayStation 4, there's no doubt you'll be able to play Dreams on your next-gen console as soon as it is released. With that happening by the end of 2020, you can expect to continue running your Dreams experience on PlayStation 5 in a few months.

Creative Director Mark Healey discussed the chances of moving game development entirely to the PS5 in the future, however, and he was quite open about it with VGC in a recent interview. On the occasion, he said the team will look to “whatever (platform) is relevant” in the future.

“Obviously right now we're focusing on the PS4 and I really hope that will extend the life of the PS4 to be honest with you,” Healey remarked, “then maybe when others companies will start making games for it, the community will focus on making games for it, but if it is as successful as we hope it is, then that is an obvious progression. "

“You know, it's a platform, so ideally in the future we'll be migrating to whatever is relevant,” he mentioned. "It's probably as much as I can say without getting slapped by someone," he added, which also sounds like a clue of things to come in the not-so-distant future.

Interestingly, Sony had shared in the past that it had a 10-year vision for Dreams, which is supposed to be a platform for users to go and play a huge selection of community games in addition to creating them. Such a long lead time would of course cover the PlayStation 5 and maybe even other platforms.

With a change in vision for the PlayStation 5, which now includes plans to release incoming titles on next and current generation consoles instead of immediately moving to PS5 exclusives, productions that ship late in the PS4 lifecycle. could become trans-generational by the time the incoming platform releases this holiday season.
