While John Cena may no longer be a full-time wrestler for WWE, the former WWE Champion is still among the most popular performers the company still has today. And unsurprisingly, Cena was included in WWE's latest 2K video game, WWE 2K Battlegrounds, as a playable wrestler. WWE's “The Franchise” is one of eight Superstars that must be unlocked through the game's Campaign mode, and it's a bit of a process to do so. With that said, be guided by what you need to do to unlock John Cena in WWE 2K Battlegrounds.
To unlock John Cena, you will first need to go to the Detroit portion of Campaign mode. In order to progress in Detroit, you will need to complete the first five parts of the campaign: New York, Florida, Mexico, Boot Camp, and Scotland. Once you've done that, you'll then have access to that part of the story.
In the Detroit portion of Campaign mode, you must complete these events in the main story:
- Defeat The Miz in a 1v1 match
- Defeat The Rock, Bobby Lashley, and Luke Gallows in a Fatal Four-Way Match
- Defeat "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt in a 1v1 match
- Defeat Braun Strowman, Sgt. Slaughter, The Miz, and Ricochet in a Gauntlet match
Once you've achieved these goals, you can proceed straight to the last part of Campaign mode, which takes place at WrestleMania. However, you will need to complete a series of side quests to unlock Cena in WWE 2K Battlegrounds.
Make sure to complete the side quests that are in the Campaign Tree. After winning the Gauntlet Match, you will need to complete the following side events:
- Defeat Bobby Lashley and Shinsuke Nakamura in a Triple Threat match
- Defeat Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, and Mankind in a Fatal Four-Way Match
- Win the Royal Rumble match
After completing these matches, be sure to scroll to the reward to the right of the Royal Rumble and press A / X. You will then be able to unlock John Cena.
