Borderlands 3 is pretty laggy. Here are some quick fixes that might help.
It's Borderlands 3 launch day when all the bugs come out of the code to stutter your game to a breaking point. The official Reddit Thread bug report is alive and well with songs from distraught gamers, in hopes of finding solutions to the ever-present issues from launch day.
One of the main complaints is lag, which is particularly prevalent in split-screen co-op mode. No official fix has been offered yet, so we can offer some general lag fixes, similar to the DotEsports fixes for Fortnite. They are two epic games, after all.
Lag or frame drops?
When someone says lag, it can mean that the images are dropping abruptly. The number of frames per second determines how well something works. If you're watching something and it looks like stop motion animation, or your character is still moving, but it's moving slowly through the animation cycle, you're probably dealing with dropped frames.
Frame drops are a tricky beast. It could be the poor performance of the computer or the game itself. The first thing to try is a restart. It's a simple thing to try. Restart the game and if that doesn't work, try restarting your computer. This is the “have you tried turning it off and on again?” Solution.
If that doesn't work, check for updates in some graphics drivers. Often, companies release new drivers to support big name games and optimize their performance.
Finally, check your computer's performance. Maybe it can't work very well. Lower your graphics settings a bit if you have weak frames.
If that doesn't work and your computer is still struggling but should be able to perform fine, it is probably gaming. Patiently waiting for a patch with lower graphics settings will give you a temporary solution.
It's definitely executives:
Alright, you know your frames don't fall. It's definitely late entry and you're playing online. The first thing to do is to switch from your automatic region to the closest possible region.
Try the same "turn it off and on" method on the router. A reboot could help speed things up. The same goes for restarting your game if it lags instead of dropping frames. A new recovery often helps.
These are just a few suggestions that might help while Gearbox works on all solutions. We know that many of the issues are with the code itself and apply to all platforms. Give them a try and expect a quick fix from the bandaid until the fixes are available.
