Halo: Reach has made its way to PC and Xbox One via Halo: The Master Chief's Collection, Those who may have missed it when the game first released in 2010 now have the chance to try it in a whole new spectrum with their friends online. A one-of-a-kind game mode called Invasion features a six-on-six type of gameplay.
It's a battle between six Spartans and six Elites. The game mode has various objectives; the two teams try to prevent the other from carrying out their respective tasks. You switch sides after each achievement, whether you win or lose. If you start the game as Spartans, you will play as an elite, against and with the same group.
There are three different game modes in Invasion:
- Boneyard: In this one, the Spartans defend a territory from Covenant invasion, where they must protect three different locations in a large UNSC shipbreaking facility. This game mode can feature teams of eight to 16 people.
- Spire: The Spartans attack a Covenant Arrow with a power core in the middle. Once the Spartans have captured two locations, they must transport the Energy Core to a ship and send it off.
- Stop: The Spartans defend themselves on this map where the elites try to assault a secret facility. This is a slightly more linear map of Spire than Boneyard.
The first round The matches has a certain number of loadings, but after each round more unlocks. For example, Spartans only have one class to choose from during their first round of attacking in Spire. Once they capture one of the two locations and move on to the second phase, two more classes are unlocked. At the end of the match, during the final phase, both teams must have all the possibilities available to them to defend or attack the opposing team.
The defending team wants to spread out and protect the first objectives during the first phases. If one of the points is captured, the attacking team advances, so it's best to spread out and have a few numbers to protect both.
For those who are attacking, you may want to focus on a particular point and defend it from the opposing team. If you can coordinate with the specific members, it's a good idea to send one or two of your team to the other objective, in the hope that you pull the entire attacking team to your side.
