Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity will help fill in the gaps in the story of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and show what happened to the land of Hyrule when Calamity Ganon brought it to its knees, while bringing it down thousands of enemies.
Nintendo and Koei Techmo have teamed up again to bring a Zelda story to life through classic Musou-style gameplay, but just like with the original Hyrule Warriors, it took a unique twist by implementing some of Breath's mechanics. of the Wild.
The game is slated for release on November 20, but during Koei Techmo's Tokyo Game Show presentation, we got a lot of new information about the story, gameplay, and characters Age Of Calamity will be releasing in.
To kick off the stream, representatives for Koei Techmo spoke about the themes of the Hyrule Warrior games, saying the original was themed a festival where players could combine many characters into one extravagant experience. Age Of Calamity aims to capture what made Breath of the Wild special by focusing on its characters and style.
This leads to the details of the story, starting with what we already knew in that it takes place 100 years before Breath of the Wild and will show exactly how the calamity happened. The goal of each playable character is to allow the player to relive the past through his actions and his eyes.
All four champions will be playable, along with Link, Zelda, and the newly revealed Impa, who uses Sheikah's techniques to fight alongside the main cast. She can summon multiple versions of herself to aid her in battle, though they look more like projections than clones.
There will also be a sidekick character who follows Link around, which appears to be a miniature version of the Guardians that was activated by the Sheikah Slate.
Sheikah Slate can also be used to activate Link's Rune abilities from Breath of the Wild, although only Ranged Bombs and Cryonis have been featured in the game showcase. This, along with other mechanics taken from Breath of the Wild, will help provide a different playing experience than the original Hyrule Warriors.
The visual style was specifically intended to replicate the artistic style of Breath of the Wild in order to make the entire experience as cohesive as possible. The goal will be to show the advance of Calamity, while also presenting other aspects of Hyrule that might not be present in Breath of the Wild.
The entire game was created with the strict guidance and supervision of Nintendo and the Zelda team. Koei Techmo actually thought the series was over after the first Hyrule Warriors game, but Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma approached the company about the idea.
Time for messages from team fans.
Strict advice from the Zelda team.
When they finished HW they thought it was the end of HW, since they were able to complete the "festival" theme, but Aonuma approached them…
