Destiny 2 Next-Gen release time
Destiny 2 will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S on December 8 at 9 h HP / 12 h HE. At this point, the new update will be live and players will be able to download the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S.
However, it might take a bit longer for the game to release on next-gen systems, as scheduled maintenance won't be complete until 10:00 a.m. PT / 13:2 p.m. ET. Destiny XNUMX servers will already be active at this point and players will be able to log in normally on current-gen consoles, but issues could arise with the development team continuing maintenance in the background.
How To Upgrade Destiny 2 0n PS5 and Xbox Series X | S
To upgrade to the next-gen version of Destiny 2, you'll need to download a patch that basically matches the entire game. You can't preload the update either, so you'll need to download a huge file on December 8 when the game will be released on new generation systems. Here are the estimated file sizes for the next generation update.

To upgrade the game on Xbox Série X | S, simply download and install the update when it is released. The game will automatically be marked as optimized for Xbox Series X | S when fully installed. If you haven't installed the game yet, just go to My games & apps and download it. If you start the download after the next generation version is released, the Xbox Series X | S will be automatically downloaded.
To upgrade the game on PS5, you will need to "buy" the free PS5 update from PlayStation Store. Search for Destiny 2 in the store and you will see a free PS5 upgrade available. Once you claim this upgrade, you will be able to download the new version of the game from your game library. Make sure you download the correct version, as the system allows you to install both PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. To check which version you are playing, find the game in the PS5 menu, press Options and select Game Version.
