The theme of Home Automation and the Smart Home is increasingly on, and among the easiest devices to find there are WiFi bulbs. Now that voice assistants are increasingly common in our homes, in fact, the management of intelligent electronics has become increasingly simple and intuitive. We have already advised you on buying one Smart light bulb, but in this guide we will focus on Google Assistant, the speaking voice of Google's voice assistant integrated in practically all Android smartphones (and not only).
If you have purchased one of the devices Google Home - for example, I bought a Google Home Mini - you can manage through a simple voice command - or via app - lots of smart devices. However, it is important that they are compatible with Google Assistant, and below we will recommend the best ones bulbs compatible with Google Home that we have selected based on the quality / price ratio.
Best Google Home light bulb chosen by us
The best light bulbs for Google Home
In this paragraph we will guide you in the purchase of best Google Home smart bulbs. As mentioned in the introduction, these are smart bulbs (called smart bulbs) equipped with a WiFi connection to be controlled remotely. We also decided to split the paragraph based on price so that you can also choose according to your budget:
TP-Link TAPO Multicolor (Alexa + Google Assistant)
TP-Link it could only be the first brand that we could offer you, and not by chance! The reliability of this brand, combined with the very attractive price of its smart bulbs of the series TAPO, have all the features we were looking for. These are in fact smart LED bulbs with a consumption of 8.7W which are dimmable both in color and in luminous intensity. They are also perfectly compatible with both the Google Assistant and Alexa, so they can be controlled more easily, even with a voice command, or via TP-Link's proprietary TAPO app. In addition to the series "multicolor”The brand also offers dimmable single color bulbs, in case you are interested.
Meross WiFi Bulb (Alexa + Google + Apple)
Among the first bulbs compatible with Google Home we want to show you those produced by Meross, which combine a extremely competitive price to the many features! In fact, we are talking about a lamp 9GB RGB LED (therefore low consumption) which develops up to 810 lumens (about 6500K). Obviously, color and brightness are adjustable (dimmable) via app or voice commands. Attacks are available E14 and E27, with other integrated functions such as the timer and of course the control via app and via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit.
TECKIN Smart bulbs
A pair of Google Home smart lamps, Alexa ed IFTTT. They are among the best sellers on Amazon - and the reviews already say a lot - but above all they have a excellent value for money because the cost of a single bulb is very low, and therefore by buying a pair you will save a lot! The average duration is also excellent, estimated at more than 30.000 hours, all with powerful 8W LEDs that emit 800 lumens. In short, super recommended if you need two or more smart bulbs to make your home smart.
AISIRER Smart bulbs
Among the best-selling and, at the same time, the cheapest, there is this pair of extremely affordable smart bulbs! The price is around 30 euros, which means about 12 euros per bulb: less than competitors! In short, you might think about spending slightly more but having two bulbs to install in your home for to illuminate two areas of the house differently, managing them separately. For example, by connecting them to your voice assistant (such as Google Home or Amazon Alexa and IFTTT) you can switch on with a voice command a particular bulb or both depending on where you have installed them. Example: “Hey Google, turn on the living room light” or “Alexa, set the bedroom light to red”! The nominal power of the LED is 9W with a yield of approx 1000 lumens: in short, not bad, especially from eBay where you can find them even less (find the link right here above).
TP-link KL110/ KL120 (no RGB)
One of the brands that we absolutely have to mention - to stay in an acceptable price range - is TP link: this brand offers many smart lamps that they don't need HUB to be remotely controlled, as for most of the smart bulbs that we are recommending in this guide! The ones you see above are the two models currently on the market, that is the KL110 and the KL120 (which, however, is too more expensive and therefore we do not recommend it). Everything is manageable through a simple smartphone app, and this allows for much lower prices. Of course, do not forget the compatibility with Smart Home speakers such as Amazon Alexa e Google Assistant! The power in this case is of 10W with a maximum yield 860 lumens: be careful though, not just RGB (therefore you will not be able to change the color) but you can only vary the white temperature, from the warmest to the coldest, up to 2700K.
Xiaomi YEELIGHT
Impossible not to mention the YEELIGHT brand (di Xiaomi) with her Smart LED Bulb, one of the most famous Google Home wifi bulbs with an excellent quality / price ratio and that with a consumption of just 9W manages to have the yield of a 100W bulb! Here too, thanks to the presence of a well-made app, it is possible to control the light bulb via smartphone (Android / iOS) or via voice commands with Alexa, Google Assistan, Mijia and IFTTT. The two versions that we have left you in the links above are both , (therefore with RGB LEDs with variable color), but they change in terms of aesthetics and brightness. The first can release up to 600 lumens (like the other wifi bulbs seen so far), while the second can arrive even at 800 lumens (a recommended choice!). You can find lots of them at a good price too on GearBest, a well-known store (with shipping from China though) where you will find very low prices but generally longer shipments.
Nanoleaf Canvas Smarter Kit
Nanoleaf Canvas is a RGB LED light set very famous, produced by Nanoleaf, which should not be considered just as a "functional" smart light bulb, but a modular mosaic of illuminated panels that you can use as an ornament to create a soft light or a play of lights. Their peculiarity is precisely in being modular as you can create shapes and designs intersecting the "tiles" as you wish. A single panel is powered by a cable and a power supply, while all the others intersect with the main one - in series - and are powered wirelessly. They exist square or triangular in shape, and there are some versions referred to as "Rythm" which flash to the rhythm of the music. To this is added their smart component, with which the Nanoleafs can connect to WiFi and be controlled remotely or via voice control thanks to Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and IFTTT!
LAKES Smart Lamp E27
Very similar to the previous one is this registered Smart bulb LAKES which he proposes - also through the classic standard E27 connection (or bayonet B22) - many functions for remote control of colors, brightness and timer. Here too we talk about a WiFi lamp 7W RGB. Thanks to the application then, it is possible to control them in all respects with the smartphone (Android and iOS) or with a voice assistant such as Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Nest or IFTTT. As for the warranty, LAKES offers a 3-year warranty, 30000 hours of duration and a 30-day money back guarantee.
Bakibo RGB Smart Lamp
If you are planning to install several Google Home compatible bulbs, then we recommend that you take the offer on these WiFi bulbs from Bakibo in packs of two or single. In fact, the price of a single bulb drops a lot and becomes among the cheapest that we have recommended. In short, don't miss them! As for the technical characteristics, they are very similar to those we have recommended so far: timer, scene mode, group control (to manage multiple bulbs together) and much more. They are also fairly powerful because they can reach up to 9W with a yield of approx 1000 lumens.
LVWIT Wifi bulb
Basically it is a wifi bulb very similar to those already seen: E27 socket, 12W RGB LED technology and controllable with voice commands via Google Home and Amazon Alexa or IFTTT. The application with which you will configure this smart bulb then, is really well done and allows you to connect many other devices. Also through it you will be able program automatic on / off, set a timer or select different scenarios (very nice).
Philips Hue system (with HUB)
Philips is by far one of the best brands for home automation, and no less for smart lighting! There are many kits available and many of them include the HUB Philips Hue - among the most reliable around - which can connect all Philips lighting devices. Obviously there are also cheaper solutions (without HUB), as you can see above, but which still include a remote control for remote control. Thanks to'HUB however, you can connect many different devices, including the elegant LED Spot Runner spotlights, the Ambiance Starter Kit or the more complete Kit 5-in-1 (in versions with bulbs E-27 or with bulbs GU10). Obviously, ai compatibility is not missing system Smart Home come Amazon Echo (Alexa) o Google Home (Google Assistant): in short, you are spoiled for choice!
WiFi LED strip
Not necessarily wifi bulbs, but also RGB LED strips! Yes, if you want to create a particular lighting or are thinking of a setup for your desk / workstation, then an LED strip is for you! The best that we would like to recommend is this one produced by iLintek which combines a good quality / price ratio waterproofing, thanks to the certification IP44. Being adhesive it can be applied more or less anywhere (even outdoors), but obviously on smooth surfaces. It also has a small receiver that allows you to control them remotely via his remote control, but of course it is also a WiFi module and is compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa! Obviously being RGB it can also change color or set a switch-on mode!
How to use the Light Bulb with Google Home
If you have purchased one of the many Google Home devices, Google's voice assistants with integrated Google Assistant, you can among the many features available, command a smart device connected to the network. Let's explain: inside every Smart Bulb (or Smart Bulb) there is a Wi-Fi module which allows you to connect wirelessly to your home WiFi modem router.
Once connected to the modem the light bulb is able to connect to the Internet. In the same way, your Google Home is connected to your home modem and can "see" all the devices on the network: if the bulb is compatible with Google Assistant, then it will be visible and your Google Home will be able to control it!
How? The first step to take, after connecting Google Home to the home WiFi modem, is to buy a Smart Light Bulb compatible with Google Home. When you get home you will find one in the box installation guide and in a few minutes you can also connect the light bulb to your home modem. In general, the steps to follow will be the following:
- Start the application to control the light bulb (written on the package);
- Connect the bulb to the current (by means of a lamp holder);
- Select the bulb on the application through the wizard;
- Connect the bulb to your WiFi, sharing the password with it.
- Add the bulb nell’app “Google Home”:
Add the light bulb to "Google Home"
Once your Google Home and your smart light bulb are both connected to the modem at home, you can open the Google Home application and connect to it the application with which you configured the smart bulb:
- Open the Google Home app
- Settings -> Other Settings
- Go to the “Home” tab -> + Add
- Configure device -> "Have you already configured something?"
- You will go to the “Manage account” section where you can search for the name of the app with which you have configured the light bulb. Enter the account you used for that app and the light bulb will be immediately imported into Google Home.
Once this is done in the main screen of the Google Home app you will find the smart light bulb and you can "add" it to the application by giving it too a name and specifying the room where you installed it (in case you need to control multiple devices).
For example above you can see how in my office - which I called "My room"- there are two devices: a Google Home Mini and a Smart Light Bulb (which I called"Luce"). By tapping on the latter, I can immediately turn it on / off or change its light intensity. With a voice command instead, I can also access other customizations!
Control the bulb remotely
By doing so you will be able manage the smart bulb in three ways: via its proprietary app (which it will ask you to download upon installation), via the Google Home app (as seen in the photos and even remotely, away from home) or through voice command. For example, if you have called your light bulb "Light" you can issue commands like this:
- "OK Google, turn on the light! / Turn off the light!"
- "HEY Google, set the brightness to 70%"
- "OK Google, set the light to red" (only if RGB)
- "HEY Google, turn on the light in Camera Mia" (name given by you)
