Windows 11 must support Android apps. In fact, members of Microsoft's Insider program can already try them out thanks to a new beta version of the latest OS. You will have to go through the Microsoft Store to take advantage of it.
Among the flagship features of Windows 11, there is obviously the ability of the OS to support Android applications. Not yet available on the final and stable version of the operating system, we were able to get a first glimpse of Android applications on PC on October 15 thanks to the dissemination of several screenshots.
As you might expect, Microsoft was quick to announce the full arrival of Android applications on Windows 11. Be careful, however, only US members of the Insider program will be able to take advantage of this at this time. As the Redmond firm specifies, you will have to go through the Microsoft Store to launch these apps, limited to around fifty for the hour.
“These Android apps and games join our larger catalog, which has everything you are looking for - from basic games to casual games, from sophisticated productivity suites to social experiences, from creativity tools to niche apps for hobbyists, and from development tools to complete virtualized environments, ”writes Microsoft.
Android apps on Windows 11 are coming true
Once the app is selected, the user will be redirected to the Amazon AppStore to start the installation process. According to Microsoft, Android games and apps will be perfectly integrated into the Windows 11 interface. It will be possible to run them side by side via the SnapLayouts feature, pin them to the Start menu or taskbar, or quickly access them using the Alt + Tab command. In addition, notifications from Android apps will arrive directly in the Action Center.
As said above, Microsoft is limiting itself for the moment to about fifty applications, but more will be released as the Insider program updates. Beta testers will be able to try their hand in particular:
- to mobile games like Lords Mobile, June's Journey, Coin Master
- reading apps like Kindle or Comics
- content for children with Lego Duplo World or Khan Academy Kids
For the moment, impossible to know when Microsoft plans to offer this feature to all users. Above all, the catalog will have to grow so that this feature does not become a simple gadget.
