Huawei Band 4 Pro it was born as an update of model 4, but it significantly improves its appearance and performance. I have tried it for about ten days and I am ready to give you my impressions in this one review.
Technical characteristics and packaging
Let's start with a brief overview of its technical characteristics:
- Screen 0,95 inch touchscreen (21.6mm x 10.8mm for AA area)
- Screen Type: AMOLED
- Resolution: 240 x 120 pixels
- Operating System: Android 4.4 or later, iOS 9.0 or later
- Sensors: 6-axis acceleration sensor, optical heart rate sensor
- Water resistant level: 5ATM
- Bluetooth: 4.2
- Battery Type: lithium ions
- Battery capacity: 100 mAh
- Control: touchscreen + tasto Home
- Autonomy: 5/7/12 days (activating or deactivating TrueSleep and constant heart rate detection)
- Charging time: about 100 min
The package contains, in addition to the Huawei Band 4 Pro, a USB-A to USB-2.0 cable and a spring plastic connector. The connector is slightly uncomfortable to insert, there is almost the fear of breaking it when you force the movement; however, it allows recharging without removing the strap, and once hooked it remains firmer than the magnetic ones.
Huawei Band 4 Pro review: hardware and display
The strap is in a resistant silicone, of excellent workmanship, available in colors black and red (officially in Italy, the pink variant will soon arrive). The central body is instead made of plastic, except for the edge that encloses the display, which is in brushed metal. In the part that will come into contact with our wrists we find the sensor that measures our heartbeat and the pins for charging.
Il , touch screen, is one of the highlights of this fitness band: well defined and visible even in direct sunlight, it has a non-adaptive but settable brightness, and is activated by touch or wrist movement. We will choose the time slots in which to set a lower brightness, perhaps in the evening. When we are in bed, however, the band recognizes the sleep phase and prevents the display from lighting up with involuntary movements, suddenly blinding us and perhaps waking us up.
Another pride of this band is the presence of GPS: it will be an excellent companion for your physical activities, keeping track of your routes and movements with high precision.
Huawei Band 4 Pro review: the application
In order to connect the Huawei Band 4 Pro to your smartphone, you will need the suite of apps Huawei Mobile Services ed Health. It will be through Health that you can add your device and synchronize it. However, the app is not exclusive to this model, but it is a cumulative application of all Huawei and Honor wearables.
Through the application you can monitor the records of your exercises and physical activities: Outdoor / Indoor Running, Outdoor / Indoor Cycling, Outdoor / Indoor Walking, Free Workout, Elliptical Machine, Rowing Machine and even Swimming in the pool or in open water.
Also in health you will find graphs on your average heart rate, and related to your sleep cycles.
In the customization section of the band, however, you can change its settings, from the dials, to the activation of notifications, alarms, reminders and menus.
INSTALL HUAWEI HEALTH
You have tried to install Huawei Health on your android smartphone but are rejected as missing i Huawei Mobile Services? It happened to us too! Don't panic. At the moment, the version of HMS on the Play Store is not updated. You just need to look for the latest apk on online libraries - like ApkPure - to solve the problem.
Huawei Band 4 Pro review: the software
The software inside the band, currently not present in Italian, is instead manageable via touchscreen, but it is perhaps the sore note of the device. It is a fairly closed mini operating system, more display. Scrolling up or down we will alternate between the various menu items, such as heart rate measurement, not exactly immediate. We will not be able to activate the voice assistant, nor will we be able to answer notifications.
The latter will all appear graphically the same, without even the distinctive icon of the application of origin. We will not have the glance that makes us decide whether to read them or postpone them, to understand what it is we will necessarily have to concentrate and lose a few more seconds.
On the other hand, the vibration is comfortable, even in the case of incoming calls or wake-up calls, never annoying and useful in case of inattention.
Huawei Band 4 Pro automatically recognizes if we have undertaken a physical activity. When heart rate and calories burned increase and remain constant, everything will be automatically recorded.
Is it reliable? GPS and True Sleep
The presence of the GPS is a guarantee in the precision of the data collected during our training sessions, even without our phone to act as an intermediary. Badly, there will be about ten overestimated steps. The same reliability cannot be found in sleep monitoring.
Huawei True Sleep monitors the heart rate during sleep, to recognize the four phases and analyze the quality of rest. The goal is to identify 6 types of sleep issues and provide science-based advice for better sleep. However, thanks to the comparison made with other smartwatches / bands worn at the same time, I realized that a fatigue recognizes the phases of wakefulness. If not enough important movements are made during wakefulness, the band will continue to record those moments as "light sleep".

Autonomy
The device has a variable autonomy, depending on the active features. With True Sleep off, and heart rate detection at not too close intervals, we also manage to reach 5/6 days (including a couple of workouts with GPS). By activating True Sleep we pass to 3/4 days, with prolonged and repeated workouts instead the autonomy drops drastically (the GPS is really energy-intensive).

Huawei Band 4 Pro review: buy it or not?
Huawei Band 4 Pro has all the advantages of one smartband (especially for sportsmen): it is practical, light, sometimes you won't even realize you have it on your wrist. Reliable GPS is a guarantee for those who love to keep track of their routes during training, and for those who want precision in measurements.
However, the "smart" part remains a bit unripe and makes you turn up your nose, especially for notifications. And the imperfect sleep measurement left me a little perplexed. To consider a possible purchase we just have to know the price: to take us home Huawei Band 4 Pro serve 79 €. Huawei could perhaps have filed a little bit, this band being a "home competitor" of Honor Band 5 (which we tested a short time ago) with which it shares almost everything, except for the price, which is much lower for the younger sister.
