iCloud is available in a new version which integrates better into Windows 10. It is the result of a close collaboration between Apple and Microsoft and there is something to delight users who straddle the ecosystem of the two companies. . iCloud on Windows 10 now offers an experience similar to that on Mac.
ICloud users who have a Windows 10 PC already had an app to access their files stored in the cloud. The user experience, however, was less natural than on macOS. The new version of iCloud for Windows 10 as far as it is concerned, it integrates Files On-Demand technology, that is to say the same synchronization engine as OneDrive, Microsoft's home application.
Windows 10: new version of iCloud for a smoother experience
The positive consequences of this collaboration are obvious: iCloud is now better integrated into Windows 10 to the delight of OS users, many of whom have an iPhone or another iDevice. Concretely, this means that you can now access your iCloud files on a Windows 10 PC without having them fully downloaded on the computer. This saves you considerable space on your local disk.
iCloud is also better supported by Windows 10 file explorer, with separate folders for Keynote, Numbers and Pages applications. You can also access your images in iCloud Photos, events configured in the Reminder app, or even bookmarks on Safari much more easily.
This collaborative work between the two companies is to be welcomed, especially Microsoft's OneDrive is installed by default on all Windows 10 PCs. Apple, which is often very closed on its solutions, is also opening up a little more with this new application and we can hope for the arrival of other solutions in the Microsoft Store in the future. We think in particular of Apple Music or Apple TV knowing that iTunes, the death of which was recently announced, is already available on the platform.
