Asus VG27AQ Our Favorite
Fnac product sheet 399 €- Best price / quality ratio on the market
- Without faults on the functions side
- ELMB Sync with G-Sync
The Asus VG27AQ is without a doubt one of the best PC monitors on the market. It is equipped with an excellent 27-inch IPS panel with a WQHD definition (2560 x 1440 pixels) with a refresh rate that can go up to 165 Hz. It has the advantage of offering a fairly unique technology that does not fall under , for once, the marketing argument: the Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB). The latter allows the screen to temporarily turn off the backlight between two images to improve perceived sharpness, very effective in combo with G-Sync which allows the screen to adapt its refresh rate on the fly.
Ultra efficient in all situations, it is the default choice if you have an Nvidia graphics card.

Samsung Odyssey G5 (2021) A good compromise
Cdiscount product sheet € 279- 144 Hz
- G-Sync / Freesync compatibility
- Attractive price
A major manufacturer of VA panels, Samsung has been one of the most interesting manufacturers of gaming screens for several years. The Odyssey G5 is one of its most promising models, with a lot of arguments for a very interesting price. It is therefore based on a 27-inch 1440p VA panel. It is also curved and offers a refresh rate of 144 Hz.
If only AMD's FreeSync is officially supported, G-Sync will also work if you have an Nvidia card! With a minimum frequency of 48 Hz, however, a relatively powerful GPU like an RTX 3060 Ti will be needed to take full advantage of it.
The image quality is more than correct considering the price. When it comes out of the box, the colorimetry is correct, but can become excellent after a probe stroke. On the other hand, the maximum brightness disappoints and, VA panel requires, the viewing angles will be quite bad. Attention connection level: it only offers HDMI and DisplayPort.
Samsung delivers here an affordable screen with solid performance. It is one of the best value for money around.

Samsung Odyssey G7 (2021) Best of VA
Cdiscount product sheet € 621- High quality slab
- 240 Hz with a VA panel
- Freesync et G-Sync
VA panels are the most balanced for gaming, but rare are the models to go up to 240 Hz. This Samsung Odyssey G7 is one of the few compatible references. The 27-inch panel therefore adopts a WQHD resolution and is very curved, to maximize immersion according to Samsung.
If we have some doubts about this last statement, we cannot however deny that we are in the presence of an exceptional slab. The screen is very responsive, which, coupled with 240 Hz, allows you to enjoy your games in the best conditions.
G-Sync and FreeSync compatibility between 20 and 240 Hz, ensures perfect fluidity in all circumstances. To play in good conditions, a very high-end card like the GeForce RTX 3080 or a Radeon RX6800XT will be essential. The icing on the cake, the colorimetry is onions from the opening of the box, a point rare enough to be greeted.
Let's conclude with a remark: the foot is very deep. So be careful if you have a small office. If you have the space (and the budget), it's hard to find better.

7 / 10 Product sheet See the Fnac test € 1- Its very immersive 49-inch panel
- HDR1000 et G-Sync
- The only 240Hz display of this size
If PC gaming is your vocation and you want to pass any console gamer off as an amateur, the Samsung Odyssey G9 is the benchmark for you. It will offer unprecedented immersion thanks to its 49-inch format equivalent to two 27-inch QHD screens side by side with a 32: 9 ratio for a total definition of 5120 x 1440 pixels. It is also compatible with HDR1000 content and with FreeSync 2 technology and G-Sync compatibility which allows the variable refresh rate to be used on compatible games, with an AMD graphics card.
It even offers a very high refresh rate of 240 Hz for greater fluidity. In short, a real alternative to a TV for single player play. Be careful, however, to have a very high-end graphics card to enjoy it in the right conditions.

BenQ Zowie XL2546 For pro gamers
7 / 10 Product sheet See the Amazon test 475 €- 240Hz
- Incredibly responsive
- but expensive for its diagonal
To be more responsive on competitive FPS (Fortnite, CS: GO, CoD: Warzone, etc.), a high refresh rate is important. Although this does not directly improve in-game skills, it will allow information to be displayed more quickly which can sometimes lead to faster action. If you're planning to play high-level ranked games and have a powerful graphics card, going for a 240Hz display can be a good investment.
In this field, BenQ is still a reference with its Zowie brand and its XL2546. It is equipped with a screen with a reduced size of 24,5 inches in order to view its entirety without moving your head and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. Compared to its predecessor, it introduces a new insertion technology. black images (Dynamic Accuracy) which improves the sharpness of moving images. This can make it possible to avoid the purchase of a new graphics card to take advantage in part of the advantages offered by a very high refresh rate.

How to choose the right PC gaming screen?
Which refresh rate (Hz) to choose?
A higher refresh rate will improve game smoothness and may give an edge over competitive games, especially FPS. We advise you to opt in priority for a screen with a refresh rate higher than 100 Hz for the majority of the games and to privilege the models 144 Hz (and even 240 Hz if you have a powerful graphics card) for the amateurs of CS : GO, Fortnite, Overwatch, Apex Legends, PUBG or Call of Duty: Warzone.
G-Sync ou FreeSync ?
G-Sync (Nvidia) and FreeSync (AMD) technologies allow, in short, the screen to synchronize its refresh rate with the frame rate in play to provide a better rendering without lag. This improves image rendering without the drawbacks of vertical synchronization if the screen refresh rate is greater than the frames per second generated by the graphics card.
FreeSync displays are, for the most part, compatible with Nvidia graphics cards in addition to those from AMD. However, if you have an AMD graphics card, you should prefer a FreeSync screen.
Is HDR rendering important on PC?
Windows still manages HDR very poorly in 2021, and this is also the case for video games which do not always offer a rendering to the height. However, it may be a good idea to invest in a FreeSync Premium Pro (HDR) display if you have an AMD graphics card as these are still quite accessible and are well made, unlike G-Sync Ultimate (HDR) models. which reach prices above 1000 euros.
HDMI ou DisplayPort ?
The latest graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD mostly offer a single HDMI port for multiple DisplayPorts. There's a reason for this: the current DisplayPort standards (1,2 to 1.4) allow more data to be carried than HDMI ports before its latest revisions (2,0 / 2,1). It is therefore important to use DisplayPort on his screen (s) and on his PC to stream games with a high refresh rate and resolution. For consoles, you obviously have to use the HDMI port as on your TV.
