A Total War Saga: Troy takes players back to the farthest point in the history of the Total War series and focuses on the 20-year war between Troy and Greece. It's an epic turn-based campaign where you choose from one of eight playable heroes and command an army to become the strongest faction. Other Total War titles have been multiplayer, but Troy won't have this feature at launch. It arrives at a later date.
Creative Assembly, the developers behind Troy, have a roadmap posted on a developer blog detailing the rest of 2020 after the game releases on August 13. The roadmap details that the multiplayer launch will take place in November. The exact date of this launch was not indicated. You just have to wait three months after the game's release to get started with a friend to play competitively or with each other. It is unfortunate that he will not be available from day one.
When publisher Sega announced the release of A Total War Saga: Troy on August 13 on June 2, they also said it would be an Epic Games Store exclusive. It won't become available on Steam until 2021. We're mentioning this because Troy's multiplayer won't offer crossplay support. Epic Games Store players cannot play with those on Steam.
It's a shame and it divides the community in the long run. Maybe that's because Epic Game members may have had it for several months before anyone else on Steam, but it still feels like a missed opportunity to keep the game alive.
The cross-play issue may change in the future. Still, don't hold your breath, as Creative Assembly has shown no signs of changing its choice.
