The PlayStation 5 showcase contained an embarrassment of wealth of information, and one surprising tidbit came from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Developers Treyarch and Raven Software have revealed a number of details about the game's campaign and competitive multiplayer, as well as the start date for the multiplayer beta. It turns out that PS4 users will be able to try out multiplayer for themselves much sooner.
If you can't wait to try Treyarch's latest effort, you can do so this weekend thanks to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Alpha. This will be a 25GB download available for preloading starting tomorrow, September 16 at 8 a.m.PT, and will be playable from Friday, September 18 at 10 a.m.PT through Sunday, September 20 at 10 a.m.PT. This is a free alpha, with no pre-order unlike the beta. Unfortunately for PC and Xbox One gamers, this alpha will be a PS4 exclusive offer.
While the team behind Black Ops Cold War have already put the alpha in the hands of influencers and competitive players for last week's multiplayer, PS4 owners can expect to try out the same maps, modes of play. game and game mechanics they saw back then. Even if you miss the alpha, the beta will arrive shortly thereafter, with a start date of October 8 for PS4 owners and October 15 for players on any platform.
