Gear 2.0 will reduce all Exotic Species to a single, more powerful Talent.
Massive confirmed the upcoming changes in alien species within their state of play and video reveal for Warlords of New York, and they've taken a “do more with less” approach. Instead of three convoluted talents that require a bit of homework to understand, Exotics will now have a powerful talent that is easy to understand.
This goes for armor and weapon, but they will still be better than other items. Normal gear and gear sets will only have talents on backpacks and chestplates, but Exotics will still have their only talent, whatever they are. Massive has confirmed that both Exotic Limits will remain in place, so you won't suddenly find yourself wielding three Exotic weapons in a single build.
The concept is simple: Massive always wants Exotics to feel special in The Division 2, and they want players to have a unique, easy-to-understand talent that changes their playstyle on everyone. That said, there will be no way to upgrade Exotics from level 30 to level 40 when Warlords of New York launches, so my Diamondback above will inevitably find its way into my stash.
Don't take them apart right away, however, as they might come in handy in the future. That said, until such a leveling system rolls out, you'll need to grind new level 40 Exotics once you hit the new level cap. Existing exotic species will drop from the same sources as before, so it shouldn't take you long to reacquire your favorites.
