Recensione Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales
PS5 it will land on the market coupled with the baby visual masterpiece which responds to the name of Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales, or the sequel to the first and glorious chapter released on PS4 in 2018 and developed exclusively by Insomniac Games. Why is this title so special? Well because from a technical point of view it is capable of really showing what the next-gen will have in store for us in the coming years. We tell you everything in ours review. Even if not all that glitters is gold.
You don't change a winning team, will it be good?
Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales is a new spider-adventure in full Marvel style.
The game opens with two Spider-Man: the historian and now tested Peter Parker and Miles Morales, a New York teenager who for some "mysterious" reason finds himself having the same powers as the original. As in the best traditions, nothing will go the right way and Miles will find himself following in the footsteps of the original to completely replace it in a fierce fight against the bad guys; villains who this time are led by tinkerer.
The plot is not among the most exciting seen so far but it is still smooth and with the right twists that will turn the situation over and over again. A constellation of the story then we find one of the strengths of the previous chapter: comedy. The jokes in fact run fast without ever being cloying.
What has not completely convinced us, however, is the setting. In fact, we find the same scenario of the first chapter, albeit better dressed and combed.
Let me explain. The adventures of Miles Morales take us back to New York and take advantage of the same game map as the previous chapter. This could give players the feeling of being in front of a DLC but Sony was keen to point out the opposite: it is a standalone adventure and as such can be played even without having tried the 2018 title.
Our advice, however, is to get your hands on the first Spider-Man anyway: it will give you some context, it will help you get to know Miles and above all it will entertain you for hours.
Technique of undoubted quality
Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales it almost seems to be a tech demo, a product artfully packaged to show the technical qualities of the newcomer Playstation 5. If at the beginning you might think of a gigantic deja-vu, after the first few minutes you will be amazed: what will appear in front of the eyes will be explosions and breathtaking pursuits, skillfully enriched by unparalleled light management. The sunset over New York will seem real to you and every single detail seems almost chiseled.

All this is possible thanks to ray traycing, the renewed lighting system that PC players already know, but which represents an absolute novelty for all those who have always played with home consoles.
I also point out the presence of "Performance" functionality optional that will aim at 60 frames per second, giving new life to the Spider-Man universe. Thanks to the very high framerate, Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales has no hesitation or uncertainties of any kind: in fact, the game is always fluid and well enjoyable.
Let's add completely zero loading times thanks to which you will not even notice the transition between a cutscenes and the beginning of the gameplay.
It is also convincing the high destructibility of the environments during the fighting, made possible by the technical potential of the new Playstation 5 console.
That said, the cut-scenes are a feast for the eyes: from the natural imperfections of the skin to the movements of the hairstyles, from the fabrics of the clothing up to the knick-knacks. In short, it seems to be in there chatting with Miles Morales and his friends.
Successful and revisited gameplay
The first time I tried Marvel's Spider-Man what intrigued me most was the gameplay, perhaps too complex and not intuitive. Actually this time too the Insomniac Games team did a great job of rendering more fluid learning of dozens and dozens of moves and easily assimilated by the player. This does not mean that you can let your guard down, far from it. If you happen to take some fights off your feet, they will be able to overwhelm you, taking you to the "game-over" with great ease.
Among the innovations introduced with Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales are the Venom attacks, that is bioelectric abilities never seen before that - for example - will be able to give you the gift of invisibility thus allowing you new creative approaches to fighting. But it doesn't stop there: you will also have new gadgets and new suits at your disposal.
It also amazes integration with the new DualSense controller. Each cobweb fired, each punch thrown will correspond to a precise vibration of the DualSense, capable of returning a pleasant sensation of immersion. Finally, there is no lack of integration with adaptive triggers, which simulate the cobwebs launched by Miles Morales when pressing the L2 and R2 keys.
For the rest, the game is characterized by a great sense of familiarity combined with frustration at times. However, know that you will have it available 4 difficulty levels, can also be selected during any phase of the game.
Finally, let's talk about the city of New York. It is always the same and you can move among its skyscrapers quite easily; as it happened in the previous chapter, you will not be able to enter any of the buildings unless the plot foresees it. All of this gives an open-world feeling even if it really isn't.
Choose how to spend your money
The new title starring Spider-Man is capable of leave you speechless from a technical point of view and - despite being a deja-vu of the previous chapter - to entertain the player for several hours without ever boring and without becoming cloying. If you are looking for something new, brand new, perhaps you will be disappointed because spending over € 70 for a game always set within the same map with the same game mechanics (albeit renewed), could make you turn up your nose. Personally I found it enjoyable and fun but I leave the final evaluations to you.
