Oppo X 2021 it is not the first leaflet of the Chinese company. Her features in fact, they clearly distinguish it from the foldable category while maintaining the same objective: to propose a compact device that can be transformed if necessary and make a more abundant screen available to the user. But how? Well, simple: the display can be rolled out.
To understand how it works we have tried it in preview for you and below you can see our hands-on.
The features (notes) of Oppo X 2021
Oppo X 2021 distorts the concept of folding. In the last two years we have seen the presentation of different foldables: from Motorola's nostalgic Razr to the larger Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Huawei Mate Xs. The basic idea is always the same: a screen that folds in half to offer more or less space depending on the needs. However, one problem remained: that of the fold.
Oppo has thus opted for a different and particularly innovative structure, based on 122 different patents, 12 of which only for the central mechanism, the one that allows you to roll up and unroll the display. Because this is what Oppo X 2021 does: it does not fold in two but unrolls. This allows the smartphone to offer a 6,7 "OLED display that can reach 7,4" if necessary.
But how is this possible? On the user side it is really very simple. Just slide your finger on the power button And that's it. The screen stretches the interface - ColorOS - adapts gradually and in real time.
Under the body instead we find a rather complex mechanism, which relies on two scooters that force the extension of the display with a constant force, so as to avoid tearing. We then have a sophisticated structure made by elements that fit together like a comb and which, in the unrolling phase, form the support necessary for the display.
Particular attention also deserves the frame composed of a fixed element and one that instead moves inside. A mechanism that takes the name of Dynamic Display.
Worried about stamina? Oppo has stated that the new device will be capable of withstand 100.000 openings, which should be equivalent to 5 and a half years of normal use or 2/3 years of intensive use.
The (unconfirmed) features of Oppo X 2021
And the others features of Oppo X 2021? At the moment they have not been formalized. In the settings we have found some indications which however may not be definitive. These are the specifications found:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor
- 8 GB of RAM
- 128 GB of internal memory
- Operating system: Android 11 with ColorOS 7.2
It is indicated then Dual SIM support but there is no opening for inserting the card which suggests that they will be both eSIM. At the same time there doesn't seem to be a microSD slot so no expandable memory.
No indication even on the front of the cameras. Oppo indicated only the presence of a main rear camera and a double TOF, but nothing more.
Oppo X 2021: release date and price
At the moment price and release date of Oppo X 2021 are not known. Given the name, however, it is easy to assume its arrival later this year. On the other hand, it is more difficult to deduce the cost of the new Oppo smartphone but it will probably be positioned in the same range of foldables, therefore between 1.500 and 2.500 €.
