The OnePlus Nord N10 5G review: where did the real OnePlus go?

The OnePlus Nord N10 5G review: where did the real OnePlus go?

OnePlus Nord N10 5G, the new smartphone from OnePlus, is the confirmation that the Chinese company over the last few years has decided to reverse course. Until now, the company's production and distribution were characterized by the release of only one flagship model every six months, characterized by a incredible value for money. Today things seem to have changed and they see a OnePlus homologated to the rest of the competitors in the sector that you started marketing even lower-end smartphones. On the one hand, this choice will allow the company to fill the market and its catalog more quickly with new models, on the other hand it will lose the charm and uniqueness to which the brand has accustomed us. Having accepted the fact that the latest smartphone model already lacks the original essence of the company, let's dive into ours OnePlus Nord N10 5G review and let's find out together technical specifications, features, price and other details of this new OnePlus.

OnePlus Nord N10 5G: the review of

Welcome new OnePlus

As we anticipated, OnePlus has become a much more conventional smartphone manufacturer than in its early years of business. And we are not referring to the progressive ease of purchase of its phones. For those who do not remember, in fact, the first OnePlus models were very difficult to buy, as they could only be bought by special invitation from those who, in turn, had managed to buy one. That was perhaps a little too much. Instead, we are referring to the renunciation of one of the uniqueness of OnePlus, the one that for years made it an extremely strong brand in its sector: the production and distribution of high-end performance smartphones sold at extremely low prices.

In fact, in recent years, the company has embarked on a tangible change of course, revolutionizing many of the things we were used to. This leads us to reiterate with great conviction that OnePlus has now changed, but we will not be the ones to tell you whether for better or for worse.

In addition to the usual flagship smartphones with excellent performance, the company has begun to market models for everyone, starting with the smartphone OnePlus North up to the latest versions Nord N10 e N100. It must be said that it is not the first time that the brand aims at a lower range. In fact, already at the end of 2015, the Chinese brand presented the OnePlus X phone, a cheaper model than the then top of the range OnePlus 2. The difference between yesterday and today is that at the time, despite the launch of a mobile phone of low-end, the brand was successful anyway stand out proposing a smartphone with an iconic design, which was able to attract the attention of many users. To be honest, even with OnePlus Nord the company has managed to perfectly combine the uniqueness of the brand at an extremely low price. The first Nord model is in fact a smartphone with excellent performance, defined by everyone - even by us at - a best buy.

Unfortunately, with the new OnePlus Nord N10 5G the first sensation you get is that of already seen. In fact, the Nord N10 looks like a smartphone similar to the many others available on the market, depriving itself of the uniqueness of the brand, which is now struggling to beat the competition compared to what happened in the past.

Aesthetics and design

The OnePlus Nord N10 5G review: where did the real OnePlus go?

The measurements of the OnePlus Nord N10 are quite generous: the smartphone it is 163mm high, 74,7mm wide and 8,95mm thick. On the back we find the fingerprint reader placed above the company logo and the photographic compartment at the top left, which protrudes slightly from the body. The latter is in plastic, with a pleasant feeling but which retains fingerprints a lot and differs from the quality of the previous models, including the Nord which has a glass back cover. OnePlus had abandoned plastic after its second smartphone, presented in 2015. On the bottom we find the audio jack from 3,5mm, the entrance type-c for charging, a microphone and the speaker that becomes stereo since the ear capsule also acts as a speaker.

On the sides we find the volume rocker, the trolley to insert two SIMs or a microSD and a SIM. Instead, the iconic switch is missing which allows you to control the ringer mode.

A 90Hz display but not very responsive

The display is a 6,49'' IPS with FullHD+ resolution, diagonal from 20: 9 and one 90Hz refresh rate: an average display but which seems light years away from OnePlus Nord's AMOLED, both in terms of sight and performance. During the use of the phone, in fact, there is no lack of display reactivity problems.

Nord N10 5G: performance and features

The OnePlus Nord N10 5G review: where did the real OnePlus go?

Under the body we find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G and Adreno 619L GPU. From the processor, combined with the optimization of the OxygenOS, we expected excellent performance. The reality is that often the smartphone lack of reactivity, with lag and jamming of a few seconds that compromise the fluidity typical of OnePlus phones. Everything is managed, as mentioned above, by the OxygenOS based on Android 10. We hope that with the next software updates there will be improvements in terms of performance.

To complete the technical data sheet of the OnePlus Nord N10 we find 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM memory, 128GB of UFS 2.1 memory, with expansion via microSD up to 512GB, but losing the possibility of having a second sim.

The smartphone is powered by a battery from 4300 mAh with Warp Charge 30T, with excellent autonomy that allowed us to reach the end of our stressful days with a residual charge of 30%. Thanks to the 30W power supply that we find in the package, you can recharge your smartphone in about an hour. As for connectivity, OnePlus Nord N10 5G is equipped with Bluetooth 5.1, chip NFC, which can also be used for payments with Google Pay, and GPS.

OnePlus Nord N10 camera: image quality

The OnePlus Nord N10 5G review: where did the real OnePlus go?

OnePlus Nord N10 5G has a photographic sector consisting of 4 sensors. We find in fact the main one from 64MP f / 1.8 EIS and that 8MP wide angle. There are also two 2MP macro and black and white sensors that are usually placed more to make numbers than for real usefulness. On the front, through a hole on the display, we find a sensor from 16MP.

The standard 64MP camera performs very well, always keeping in mind the range in which this smartphone fits, taking discrete photos both in optimal conditions and in low light. The wide-angle sensor, the same as the one present on the OnePlus Nord, and the selfie camera also perform well.

Nord N10 can shoot video in 1080p resolution at 30 or 60fps, or in 4K stopping at 30fps. It is also capable of spinning in mode Super Slow Motion – in FullHD a 120fps oppure a 720p a 240 fps – e Time-Lapse even in 4K. The OnePlus Nord N10 is at its best in photos, but the videos are also of good quality.

OnePlus Nord N10 5G review: buy it or not

Despite some setbacks that we hope will be resolved with the next updates, OnePlus Nord N10 5G performs quite well. We did not detect reception and connectivity problems, both for 5G and for GPS navigation or connection via Bluetooth. Also thanks to the presence of the OxygenOS, this smartphone manages to juggle the various processes well and the fingerprint sensor is quite fast.

What is not convincing, however, is the lack of the usual OnePlus touch, which is instead present on the older brother North. Indeed, with a minimal price difference, the N10 loses the quick switch that allows you to change the audio, as well as loses the excellent AMOLED display in exchange for an IPS screen. The fingerprint sensor, while effective, takes a step back and is placed on the back of the phone - made of plastic - instead of under the display.

    OnePlus Nord N10 5G: prezzo

Overall, the user experience is equal to any mid-range smartphone but, with a list price of 349 € of OnePlus Nord N10 5G than i 399 € of OnePlus Nord (here our review), we would like to recommend the latter which is un vero best buy.
