The Elder Scrolls Online: Scalebreaker review, the return of the dragons

Continue the stagione del Drago in The Elder Scrolls Online with the new DLC Scalebreaker and many new adventures in the land of Khajiit.

Although in the previous Elsweyr expansion, we managed to temporarily stop the invasion of the dragons, Scalebreaker makes us understand that their influence is more extensive than we thought. So here is our review of The Elder Scrolls Online: Scalebreaker.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Scalebreaker recensione

Mirroring the annual projects of Bethesda e Zenimax, Scalebreaker it's not a real expansion like Summerset or the same Elsweyr. We are in the presence of a minor DLC that does not introduce a new area of the land of Tamriel or character classes but adds two new dungeons: Lair of Maarselok e Moongrave Fane.

In the first dungeon we are called to purify the place from the corruption introduced by Maarselok, a fearsome dragon and final boss. The level is well characterized and full of monsters to fight and mysteries to solve that kept us busy for over an hour (without a party). In general it is a dungeon like any other, with no standout features other than adding an extra bit of storyline to the game. The quests and battles are similar to those of the base game or other dlc with classic missions that include the protection of an NPC or the destruction of defensive objects before attacking the boss. On the other hand, it is of considerable impact dungeon style featuring a vibrant blue substance created by the dragon Maarselok

Moongrave Fane it behaves in much the same way. Also in this case we will have to face many enemies and some mini-bosses to get to the end of the dungeon and eliminate our objective: aculto of vampires intent on harnessing the power of dragons. Although the character design and introduced lore are interesting and well done, this level also feels quite flat and basically, boring: no particular news in terms of gameplay or pattern of enemy attacks.

The dragon hunt continues

Difficulty level of dungeons can be increased in "veteran" mode. This adds additional mechanics during combat, making the challenge more enjoyable and rewarding. You will need to form a proper party and collaborate with other players. Once completed, each new dungeon, introduced by The Elder Scrolls Online: Scalebreaker, grants up to eight new sets of armor and weapons. As usual, if you wear the full set of the same type of armor, this will guarantee you some very powerful buffs.

Overall, Scalebreaker gave us a feeling of "already seen". The news are very few and the ones that are there have not managed to thrill us. As happy as we are to know even more of Tamriel's rich world, this one dungeon-pack turned out to be quite flat. All of this is not helped by the package price which amounts to 1500 Crown, or about 13 euros, that well the price is not particularly high, especially compared to a real DLC, it is not justifiable for the just 2 hours of game added.
