The first configuration for your new smartphone

Those who switch from an old mobile phone to an Android smartphone will have many doubts as soon as they open the package. In this article we want to remind you of five of the things you usually need to do when you are in this situation.

    1) Transfer contacts
The mobile phone also acts as a centralized phone book and therefore when you change it it is necessary to transfer
even the numbers. It is a simple operation: in the phonebook of all phones there is a function that allows you to copy data from the phone memory to the SIM. After that, just insert the same card into the new smartphone. If the latter is based on Android and you have relied on the standard settings for the first installation, the device will automatically save all the contacts of the Sim card on your Google account. This way they will also be available with other cards and through different devices that you use with the same account. If you prefer to avoid it, go to Settings / Accounts & sync / [Your Google account] and disable syncing.

    2) Configure emails
You can set up the other mailboxes in the settings under Accounts and sync / Add account. In the case of very popular providers such as Gmx or others, simply enter your email address and password. If registration fails, tap Config. manual and enter the Pop3 or Imap server data you find in the
Email provider faq. In the dialog box, you can also enter your login details for a Microsoft Exchange server.

    3) Delete junk apps
There are unwanted pre-installed applications on smartphones, e.g. for web services or online shops.
In part these cannot be uninstalled, but on Android starting from version 4 it is at least possible to deactivate them. Go to the Settings / Applications menu, tap the app and then the Disable button. This will delete it from the homescreen and from the app summary.

    4) Save battery
Features like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi should be turned off when not needed. On Android, the operation is very fast thanks to the special widgets. Among the settings you should set the display to Automatic brightness, configure a short time before standby and disable live images in the background. Airplane mode saves a lot of energy, for example when you would not use your smartphone during a meeting anyway.

    5) Take advantage of the display lock
Sensitive data can be stored on a smartphone. As a screen lock is not activated on stock Android devices, this function must be enabled. Easier than typing in a Pin or tracing a pattern on the screen is Face Unlock Face Recognition, available on devices with a front camera starting from Android 4.0. To activate it go to Settings / Security / Screen lock. The Vitality Check option available since Android 4.1 protects you from abuse by asking you to blink during facial recognition.
