Technology is also revolutionizing the world of sport. It made the performance monitoring and not only. Swimming is no exception: Today there are several technologies that can improve the way we train in the water, give it SmartWatch to earphones up to the augmented reality goggles. No technology can replace hard training. But some of these gadgets can make it more effective and fun.
Swimming smartwatch
Now every sportsman must have a tracker on their wrist. A smartwatch is the simplest and most immediate way to get data and statistics on your swimming. If until a few years ago training for a swimmer or water polo player consisted of constantly checking the wall clock with the fingers around the neck to hear the beats, a good swimming smartwatch detects all essential information in a simpler and more immediate way. Number of laps done, beats, times and rhythm. Many smartwatches and swim trackers also have analytics for study your stroke and give you style guidelines (even if they do not replace an instructor or coach). Those who swim in open waters cannot do without the GPS to calculate distances accurately.
Fitibit Charge 4
If you sportsmen who also delight in swimming, the Charge 4 is a great compromise. It offers practically everything you could want from a fitness tracker, including water resistance up to 5 atmospheres (50 meters deep). The thing that makes it a good swimming smartwatch is the very accurate heartbeat reader even in water. It also allows you to analyze your stroke and do high-intensity interval workouts. It is also great if you want to go to the gym, run or do one of the thousands of other activities it can track.

Garmin Swim 2
Garmin has released the successor to its swimming smartwatch. The good news is that it works much better, the bad is that it costs around 250 euros. But the quality to justify the price is all there. In addition to the normal functions of a sports watch, Garmin Swim 2 has an endless array of features designed for swimming (we leave you this link for a more in-depth analysis). Directly on the watch you can manage many utilities for swimming in the pool, from the selection of workouts, to the auto detection of pauses up to many functions for analyze the effectiveness of your style. Even the GPS for open water swimming is really great. In the water the GPS signal does not travel well, which usually makes the readings unreliable. This Garmin swim smartwatch had more accurate than average results, paired with all the heart rate and swim data.

G-Squad GBD-H1000
This ultra resistant watch was presented in June. At the press conference he was there Niccolò Gitto, world champion in Shanghai with Settebello. If a swimming smartwatch is good for him, it should be good for everyone. According to the water polo player, this watch is capable of withstanding "incredible blows" without getting scratched and detects the beat with a lot of precision. Perfect for high-intensity workouts, it's a tough, pure watch for athletes. Solar charging and duration of 14 hours even with active GPS make it perfect for bottom swimmers and triathletes.

When the smartwatch is not enough: heart rate monitor for swimming
Although the ability of smartwatches to detect swimming beats and stats has increased a lot, some swimmers can't do without the fascia cardio. Wrist trackers are replacing the bust tracker even among professionals but it is undeniable that it is easier to reveal the rhythm of our heart with a band. If you want the absolute precision, accompanied by intelligent analytics designed for swimming as well as aperfect fit, the band HRM-Swim at Garmin remains the reference point of the market. Simply: it works.

Smart glasses in augmented reality
Being able to control your pace, the beats and the kilometers you have grinded when you stop at the bottom of the pool or while you rest in open water is essential. But even better would be to have all that information under control while you are swimming. Instead of twisting your neck while swimming to look at the smartwatch, you could use augmented reality goggles by Form. They connect with Bluetooth to your smartwatch (which is not trivial when swimming, since the water shields the signal) and transmit your data on the glass of the goggles. In this way you can have all the essential data at a glance to change pace and better manage your training. With the new update you can also use them at sea. Just make sure they are compatible with your smartwatch.

Swimming earphones
If you want to listen to music, podcasts or audio books while exercising you should know that there are some technical problems. Bluetooth does not travel well in the water, which makes it impossible to connect to Spotify or YouTube Music while waving. The signal is stable enough to transmit data to the Form goggles but cannot handle the transmission of all the information necessary to reproduce the music. If for the web or in the store they recommend swimming caps with Bluetooth, look for more information: some wireless headphones are resistenti all'acqua, some swimming caps also have Bluetooth to use when you are not in the water.
So you need headphones with some memory where to save music or any other audio format (although for workouts we recommend something undemanding: Anna Karenina's audiobook is a bit too dense for when you do the tacks in the pool).
Sony NW-WS413 and NW-WS623 earphones
Headphones Sony NW-WS413 they don't have a very high volume but the sound is clean. Charging takes a very long time ei 4 GB of memory they are more than enough for hours of training. You have both rubber pads for swimming in various sizes than those for running or the gym. They are really well built, impossible to take off even if you are breaking the butterfly world record. If you have a rather tight silicone cap they could be annoying but only at the end of the workout: they are among the swimming earphones most comfortable we have tried.

Aftershokz Xtrainerz
These headphones are similar in fit and comfort to Sony's. The difference is in the technology for the transmission of sound: they are indeed bone conduction. This means that they do not enter the auricle but are positioned a little further ahead. Do vibrate the cartilage and bones in front of your ear reproducing the sound in this way. These headphones also have 4GB memory and a battery more than enough to train.
The choice between classic earphones and bone conduction is very personal: you need a balance between the sound quality of the former and the comfort and consistency of the latter. If you have the opportunity to try them both (perhaps loaned by a swimming partner) you remove all doubts.

Ready to go to the tub or to the beach
Sport is increasingly technological. In the future it seems that we will see more and more video analytics to collect data and then analyze it with artificial intelligence, in swimming as in other sports. For this sporting season, however, these technological gadgets are i best you can take to the poolside or by the seas and lakes.
Technology can help you get in shape and improve your times on the water. Stopwatch and fingers to the throat are no longer enough. On one thing, however, those nostalgic for simple workouts are right: to get faster, you have to dive in and start swimming.
