Surfing Facebook without being seen almost sounds like a paradox and, in some ways, it really is! If you want to stay in the shadows, you certainly don't sign up for a social network! However, if we give the expression “Invisibles on Facebook” a slightly different meaning, then we can glimpse the so-called squaring of the circle. Because? Let's analyze some reasons:
- being invisible on Facebook can mean sifting through other people's affairs without the opposite happening;
- surfing on Facebook without being seen can mean not wanting to be found by strangers and unwelcome contacts;
- it can mean doing it secretly and not wanting to be discovered ...
... or many, many other things like that. Whatever the reason may be, you can do it! In the guide below we will try to understand how this is possible and how to stay on Facebook practically ... in the shadows, creating a new contact!
Before proceeding, we remind you in advance that using Facebook with a false identity or with invented names / surnames, unless explicitly communicated, represents a violation of the terms of service.

We use the browser's incognito browsing
This, more than a tip to create a secret contact, is a tip to avoid leaving traces on the devices we will use to carry out our work! So remember to use incognito browsing when we create the appropriate email, when we create the profile and when we consult it: our privacy will thank you!
We create a dedicated email
The first rule for the perfect "invisible contact" on Facebook is to use an email address that no one knows, so as to be invisible to searches or crafty friends who "cross" the data. My advice is not to rely on a temporary email address but to create a new email which will be dedicated only to Facebook.
Pay attention to the name and surname
As much as we can make ourselves invisible on Facebook by preventing us from being found by search engines, preventing this possibility in the internal engine is practically impossible. In other words, if you were to create a contact "Little Parapuffo" and someone wrote "Little Parapuffo" in the Facebook search field would end up finding my profile, even if you may not be able to see the information.
So if we have a name-surname combination that makes us unique (which is very little possible), we can think of using abbreviations or names that do not correspond to reality. But let's do it with the awareness, as said at the beginning, that we could be banned at any time as this is a violation of Facebook's ToS.
Let's create the profile
Once you have created the email and chosen the name and surname (if ours is better), we can create the new profile that will make us invisible on Facebook. To do this, simply connect to the main page of the service and enter our data where required.
The beauty comes now: we will have to refine our profile to make it truly invisible!
Let's hide from search engines
To be invisible on Facebook we have to especially in search engines like Google! Yes, because by writing our name and surname on search engines, by default, our Facebook page will appear among the results.
But we can avoid it: from our profile let's go up Settings> Privacy and click on "Edit" corresponding to "Do you want search engines to redirect to your profile?" (or click on this link).
We remove the check mark from the box and click on Close.
Let's hide from Facebook searches
We can make sure that no one outside our friends list can search for us on Facebook using our email or phone number. This is one of the fundamental precautions to keep if we want to remain invisible on Facebook.
To do this, let's go to our profile Settings> Privacy and click on "Edit" next to "Who can search for you using the email address you provided?" (or click on this link). Let's move the curtain up Friends.
We do the same thing with the entry "Who can look for you using the phone number you provided?" (available at this link).
We block friend requests
To remain perfectly invisible on Facebook and above all avoid unwelcome contacts we can make sure of receive friend requests only from friends of friends. Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely block friend requests, but this little trick can be useful.
To do this, let's go to our profile Settings> Privacy and click on "Edit" next to "Who can send you friend requests" (or click on this link). Let's move the curtain up Friends of friends.
We limit the tags
Admitted and not granted that we want to be invisible on Facebook only for certain people, a tag could literally screw us: it is enough to be tagged somewhere so that the friends of those who tag us know of our existence!
At least by default, because we can also intervene in this regard and make sure that no one can tag us if we don't approve the tag!
We can do it from the section Settings> Calendar and tagging, reachable from this link. In fact, from here we can access some interesting options such as:
- the possibility of prevent someone from posting post in our diary;
- the possibility of check the posts we are tagged in before they appear in our diary;
- the possibility of control who can see the posts in which we are tagged;
- the ability to control who sees what others post in our diary;
- the possibility of not be tagged if we don't check the tag first (we will be notified).
We don't use official apps
It may seem nonsense but just a moment of distraction and a "yes" too many and Facebook or Messenger associate the information stored in the smartphone / tablet to our profile and, vice versa, the contacts of our profile to our smartphone / tablet.
If we want to be invisible on Facebook this should absolutely not happen, at least to keep everything distinct! So the advice is to use an alternative app to official Facebook, for example Facebook Lite, or to use the Facebook chat without Messenger.
BONUS: Did we forget to log out?
We created our nice contact, added who we wanted, so now we are visible with who we want and invisible on Facebook for everyone else. But what if unfortunately we have not used the incognito mode and we have forgotten to log out of the profile on a PC that we do not use only, a public station, our friend's app or something else?
Simple: we can log out of Facebook remotely using our dedicated guide!
BONUS 2: invisible on Facebook… from the chat!
If our concept of "Invisible on Facebook" is much less articulated than we thought and you were looking for a solution only to not appear in the Facebook chat or on Messenger ... then this is the right section!
To be invisible on the Facebook chat from a PC, all we have to do is open the website, click on Chat, then on the settings wheel and finally on Disable chat.
From there we will be able to choose whether to become invisible on Facebook for everyone or just for some friends, perhaps even using lists.
Even on Messenger it is possible to "disappear" from the list of active users: open the app, go to the tab People (the second from the right) and tap on active.
We wait for Messenger to load the list of active contacts; at the top we'll be there too, with a switch set to "On": let's move the switch to Off and we will be invisible on Facebook Messenger for all our friends.
Obviously, in this way we will not have the possibility to see who is online.
