Facebook Messenger now offers video calls on mobile

If until now, the mobile version of Facebook Messenger only handled voice calls, today it also allows video calls via their smartphone or tablet in the same way as Skype or Facetime. An update that positions Mark Zuckerberg's application as a complete messaging solution.

Video chat is now possible with Facebook Messenger.

Less than a month after the arrival of the web version of Facebook Messenger, the mobile version has just received an update, the main novelty of which is the arrival of videoconferencing. If the web version of Facebook already offered video calls since 2011 thanks to a Skype plugin, now the messaging application of the social network directly competes with that of Microsoft.

To make a video call, all you have to do is click on the “camera” icon at the very top of the conversation, to the left of the “Phone” icon, intended for voice calls. And just like on Skype, it is possible to switch between the two photo sensors. According to Facebook, the quality of the calls would be close to high-definition, provided you have a good connection and the video chat is available both in Wifi and in 4G.

For now, only the Android and iOS versions of the application integrate this new functionality and only the following countries are supported: Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, United States, Your country, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, and Uruguay. In other words, video calls are already available in Your country. And to enjoy it, just download the new version of the application from the Play Store.
