A unique aesthetic
The aesthetics and materials of this device are definitely unique, at least as far as the back is concerned. In fact, we find a leatherette cover of a yellow very nice, interrupted only by a black glass band with a holographic finish, which visually extends the rear photographic department. The two materials feel very pleasant and premium to the touch, and they also look pretty fresh to scratches, so much so that we are tempted not to use a cover in order not to ruin the aesthetic effect.
The front side is instead more standard and anonymous, with a hole for the camera integrated into the screen and reduced bezels (but not very small, especially on the underside). The only thing worth noting is the presence of one flat screen, which differentiates the realme phone from other top of the range and is, in our opinion, definitely a plus. In fact, if the “edge” screen certainly has its own aesthetic appeal, a flat screen makes it much easier to install protective glass, which increase the longevity of the device.
Power, fluidity and a beautiful screen
realme has made few compromises when it comes to the power of this device. The processor is the best among those currently available for the Android world, the memory (at least in the case of the internal one) uses the fastest standard on the market. Factors that lead to a truly experience without slowdowns or hitches, even during intense activities such as il Gaming. If you really need more performance, you can always activate the GT mode, which increases performance at the expense of battery and temperatures. We, however, have never felt the need.
The screen with also contributes to this feeling of fluidity a high refresh rate, a standard for high-end phones. A feature that can be noticed if you pay attention, but which is mostly perceived unconsciously and is less noticeable than other qualities of the display. Quality likehigh brightness, the excellent viewing angles andhigh fidelity of the panel, both from the point of view of resolution that, above all, of the colors. A predictable result, given the use of technology Super AMOLED, but not for this of lesser value.
Solid autonomy, immediate recharge
The phone battery, from 4500 mAh, it is certainly high, but it is certainly not unknown in the world of smartphones, quite the contrary. This therefore translates into autonomy certainly good, but not great. Depending on your use, you can easily reach the 5 hours of use of the display, which translate in little more than a day of autonomy.
To "compensate" for this acceptable but average battery life we find the ultra-fast charging by realme, called SuperDarp. In this version it is possible, with the charger included in the package, to reach 65W of charging power, which translate, on paper, on a full charge in 35 minutes. According to our tests this value is absolutely realistic and observable, even considering variables such as usage and background activities while charging.
Two out of four good cameras
The photographic department, while very solid and adequate for the vast majority of situations, is another good but not exceptional aspect of this phone. The rear main sensor from 64MP it is in fact able to take shots of excellent quality, with decent results even in low light conditions. Even the front sensor, from 16MP, does its job, even if by default it uses a beauty filter quite hateful, can be deactivated with a couple of taps.
On the other hand, the ultra-wide-angle sensor, very comfortable for some shots panoramic or with very large subjects, has a lower quality, also evident in the shots. Not to mention the macro sensor, which as in many models turns out to be more useful to increase the number of cameras on the device than to actually take shots. The focal length of 4 centimeters would in theory be very useful for taking macro photos, but the low quality of the sensor paradoxically makes it more advisable to use the zoom.
The shooting interface is quite complete and feature-rich, like the dual view video mode, i.e. with both front and rear shooting, and the mode PRO, which guarantees full control over all shooting parameters. However, some details are not very refined, such as the passage of the zoom from the ultra-wide angle (0.6x) to the main sensor (1x), which it does not provide intermediate zooms.
A flagship, or almost
Up to now in this review we have highlighted how realme GT 5G is, from almost every point of view, a real top of the range. However, there are some features, also justified by the price range, which bring this device closer to mid-range products. These are not necessarily negative aspects, on the contrary: both the aforementioned flat screen that the presence of the audio jack they are both excellent things, absent in the high-end tendentially for aesthetic reasons.
Looking at the rosy aspects, there is a lack of support for wireless charging it's a IP certification against dust and water. The former is not essential, but it is now the standard in high-end phones. The lack of the second is less acceptable, since it would allow you to use the device with more peace of mind even in the case of sketches e sweat.
Realme GT 5G review: our conclusions
The proposal put forward by realme with its GT 5G is very interesting, as it combines functionality and features of the highest level in a product with a unique design. All at an absolutely competitive price (€399 for the 8 / 128GB version, €499 for 12 / 256GB), from vero ‘flagship killer’. Compromises and shortcomings are not lacking, but they are reserved for aspects that several people might consider secondary or less relevant, especially considering the power and the very high quality screen.
