What do you say, then, if I recommend someone who could be useful for the purpose?
In the next paragraphs of this guide, I will have the opportunity to list some of the best photo editing software on the square: some of them allow you to process images for free, others allow you to retouch photos in RAW format and still others can be used directly from the browser ( let's talk about online services). Programs to process free photos
want process free photos, using ad hoc programs? I think I have some solutions that can do for you: try them and you will see that you will not regret!
GIMP (Windows / macOS / Linux)
When it comes to free photo editing programs, one cannot fail to mention GIMP, which is considered the best free and open source alternative to much more famous software, such as Photoshop. It offers many photo editing tools that can be used on Windows, macOS and Linux that will surely be useful for correcting the defects in your shots.
To download GIMP, linked to this page, click the button Download xxxx and, on the page that opens, click on the button Download GIMP xxxx directly. When the download is complete, open the file you obtained and complete the setup by following the instructions that appear on the screen.
Su Windows, after downloading and opening the file .exe obtained from the GIMP site, click the button first Yes and then on the buttons OK, Install e end. On Macinstead, drag GIMP in the folder Applications say macOS, click on destroy the program icon and select the voice apri from the menu that opens twice consecutively (this procedure must be done only at the first start of GIMP, as it serves to "override" the restrictions imposed by Apple on software from non-certified developers).
After installing and launching GIMP, you can finally take action and process your photos using the multiple tools included in the program. To do this, select the item Apri ... from the menu Fillet (above) and import the photo you want to edit into the application.
Now you can take action. On the left is the instrument panel, which integrates all the tools necessary to retouch the elements in the image (to use one, just select it and act directly on the work area that contains the photo to be edited), while on the right there is the layers panel which allows you to manage the various levels of the photo.

Other programs to process free photos
If GIMP wasn't to your liking, know that there are many other programs to process free photos that might be right for you. Some of them are listed below.
- Paint.NET (Windows) - as you can easily guess from its name, this software is designed specifically for digital drawing, but if necessary it can be useful for processing and retouching photos thanks to some tools that allow you to act on the main parameters of the same.
- PhotoFiltre (Windows) - allows you to process photos and images in a very simple and intuitive way, thanks to the application of some filters and photo editing tools that allow you to correct the brightness, contrast and other parameters of your shots.
- Paintbrush (macOS) - This free application for Mac features a well-organized user interface that makes it easy to use. It also includes some tools for drawing on photos which make it a complete solution. It does not allow you to retouch your shots heavily (as you can do with GIMP), but it is still useful for those who have to make small corrections to images.

Programs for processing RAW photos
Do you usually take pictures with your SLR? if so, check out the programs for processing RAW photos listed below, because they can be really useful to you. The photos in RAW format, if you do not know it, are "raw" files that collect a large amount of shooting information offering greater possibilities to act on the various parameters in post production, and the programs I am about to suggest allow you to treat them better .
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (Windows/macOS)
If you are looking for programs to process RAW photos, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom it could be what is right for you, as it supports files in RAW format allowing you to edit them in an extremely simple way, both on Windows and on macOS. I remind you that this software is part of the suite Adobe Creative Cloud, which provides for the subscription of a 12,19 euro / month subscription, but is available in a trial version that allows you to test all its functions for a period of 7 days.
To download Lightroom on your computer, go to this page of the Adobe website and click on the button Activate your free trial version. Once the download is complete, if you are working from a PC Windows, april il .exe file obtained, click on the button Yes in the window that appears on the screen, indicate if you already have a Adobe account (and if so, log in with it) or create one right now and click the button Start installing.
If you are acting from a Macinstead, open the package .dmg you downloaded and double-click theprogram icon present in the window that opens. Then log in to yours Adobe account (if you have one) or create one at the moment and then click on the button Start installing.
Once the setup is completed, the main window of the program will open automatically and you can import the RAW file you intend to process into it (to do this, just press the button Aggiungi photo and select the photo of your interest).
After importing the photo into Lightroom, you can view its thumbnail by clicking on the drawer placed on the toolbar located on the left. Double-click on the photo you want to edit to see it in full screen and, if you want, edit it using the tools located on the right sidebar by clicking on colore, shine, ombre and other image parameters.
When you have finished working on the photo in RAW format, you can save an edited copy of it by selecting the item Save in from the menu Fillet (top left) and indicates the folder in which to save it. If you want to cancel the changes made, instead, click on the button (...) located on the toolbar on the right and select the item Revert to original from the menu that opens. Easier than that?
Other programs for processing RAW photos
There are also other programs to process RAW photos that deserve to be taken into consideration. Here are a few that might be useful for you.
- XnView NP (Windows / macOS) - this is a very famous photo viewer that allows you to edit and organize in a rather simple way all the main graphic file formats, including those in RAW format. It integrates many advanced functions, including the use of EXIF data, the creation of galleries for the Web, the side by side comparison of images, etc. Free.
- Gallery (Windows 10 / 8.x / 8) - if you do not have particularly important needs, you can use this default application from Microsoft to view, manage and process graphic files in various formats, even in RAW.
- Gallery (macOS) - this is the default application for Mac that allows you to open, manage and even edit photos imported to your computer from your mobile devices and digital cameras (therefore also in RAW format).

Programs to edit photos online
Don't feel like installing photo editing programs on your computer? in this case, you can use online services suitable for the purpose, which can be used directly from the browser.
Photopea
One of the best web applications to edit photos online is Photopea, which has a tool-rich yet well-organized user interface. The service is free and requires no registration in order to be used. Furthermore, it does not require the installation of any additional plugins, as it is made in HTML 5.
Just a small clarification before explaining how to use it: on the main page of Photopea there are advertising banners that can be removed by subscribing to its Premium version, which starts at 9 dollars / month.
To edit photos with Photopea, then connected to its home page, click on (X) to remove the service welcome window and, if necessary, translate its interface into British by clicking on the item More at the top and selecting the items Language > cittàno give the menu check if you press.
Now, select the item apri from the menu Fillet located at the top left, choose the image you want to import into Photopea and use the tools located in the toolbar on the left to edit the photo. After selecting one of the Photopea tools, you can adjust its intensity through the menu located at the top and then use it directly on the image (in the center of the work area). Through Layers panel and History pane (both places on the right), however, you can work on the levels and manage the history of the various changes made.
When you're done editing the photo, select the item Exposed as from the menu Fillet located in the upper left corner and select the output format in which you want to export it (ex. PNG, JPG, SVG, etc.). Finally, remember to click on the button Save to complete the download of the edited image.
Other programs to edit photos online

- Photoshop Express Editor - is an online service developed by Adobe that allows you to process JPEG files using multiple tools. It works via the Adobe Flash Player plugin.
- Pixlr Editor - is a free online service that has a well-organized interface that includes many tools to retouch the imperfections and defects present in the photos. It works on all major browsers with Adobe Flash Player support.
- Remove.bg - it is a service designed specifically to cut out human faces, an operation that is performed very well by an algorithm based on Artificial Intelligence. It can be used for free only for personal purposes and to process low-resolution images: otherwise, to use the service for commercial purposes and to process high-definition images, the subscription to the Premium subscription is required, which starts at 9 euros / month.
App to edit photos on Android and iPhone
As I mentioned in the introduction of the post, there are also many free photo editing app which can be useful for retouching photos on the go. Here are some of the best on the square.
- Snapseed (Android / iOS) - is considered one of the best photo editing apps on the go. Among its strengths are a well-organized interface, multiple photo editing tools that allow you to make various corrections to images and the ability to apply ready-to-use filters.
- VSCO Cam (Android / iOS) - this is a very famous photo editing app that allows you to edit photos "on the fly" using presets and possibly manually adjust the main parameters of your shots.
- Photoshop Lightroom (Android / iOS) - is another Adobe app that allows you to retouch photos, shoot in DNG and edit RAW files. These advanced functions, however, are the prerogative of users who have subscribed to the Premium subscription which starts at 4,99 euros / month, but to use them you need to have a suitable device (eg iPhone 6s / 6s Plus and later, Galaxy S8 / S8 + and later, Google Pixel / Pixel XL and later, etc.).
