About a year after Pixel Buds 2, Google returns to the fray with a new version of its true wireless headphones, called the Pixel Buds A Series. This new incarnation of the Pixel Buds was born as an economic alternative to the previous ones, the cost in fact stands at 99 € instead of 199 € and, net of some technical compromise, they convinced us of their quality. Without further ado, So let's dive into our Pixel Buds A Series review.
Pixel Buds A Series: our review
Stylistically speaking, the A Series looks like almost identical to their high-end counterparts, with a few minor changes in their design. The case remains unchanged, too, with an oval shape and a bluetooh pairing button on the back. A design that works and that we had already learned to like with Pixel Buds 2. The A Series are also very comfortable to wear, however, it happened that during training we slipped dangerously out of the auricle.
These headphones also support some really convenient features that make it easy to use discreetly. The most obvious of all is the in-ear detection, which will immediately stop playing music when you take them out of your ears, but it certainly doesn't end there. The A Series in fact allow you to adjust the volume of each headset separately and also support intelligent alerts, which automatically lower the volume when certain specific sounds are detected, like the sirens of an ambulance or the barking of a dog. However, these warnings are still being tested.
Intuitive also i touch commands, which with one touch pause the song being played, with two touches go to the next track and with three go back to the previous one. The same controls also apply to incoming calls, in which case we will be able to answer with one tap and reject with two. If, on the other hand, we want to activate the Google voice assistant, which is necessary to adjust the volumes on the smartphone, we will have to press and hold the small touch pad.
As for the previous model, active noise cancellation remains absent. A lack that is felt, and that we hope to find in the next devices.
Audio quality and other functions
The ancillary functions of the A Series remain basically the same compared to their cousins, with the possibility of activating them simply by saying "Eih Google" and make them ring to find them more easily in case they are lost. There is also the reading notifications, messages, emails and updates on traffic and weather, which is a great strength for sports enthusiasts.
As for the sound quality, the most important element for wireless headphones, nothing to complain. The sound is always clear in the case of calls, while from the point of view of musical reproduction the yield is average, without quality peaks or gaps. Particularly useful in this case is the possibility of adjust the bass and enable adaptive sound, which will automatically adjust the volume based on how much noise is around us.
The autonomy is also average, with a battery that lasts about 4 hours for music playback and about 3 for calls. Wireless charging is totally missing, so if you are a lover of this function you will be disappointed, and we advise you to point to the Pixel Buds 2, which on the contrary support it.
Pixel Buds A Series therefore configure themselves as very balanced wireless headphones, and offer a good plethora of comfort at an affordable price. Our judgment is therefore positive and we can only recommend them to all users looking for an economical and efficient option.
