OnePlus 8 Pro it is official and, on paper, it really seems a tough opponent for all the other top of the range 2020. But how is it in real life? Does it really live up to expectations? Well, I'll spoil it right away: YES. Yes, because the design is really convincing, the performances are excellent and the camera - the weak point of all its predecessors - managed to amaze me.
But stop the chatter and let me tell how did these first days in the company of the new Chinese flagship phone go.
OnePlus 8 Pro preview: the video
OnePlus 8 Pro: in the blue, painted blue
The first thing I noticed when I opened the package of OnePlus 8 Pro it was definitely the coloring. Alongside the classic Onyx Black and the more original Glacier Green, we find theUltramarine Blue. Captivating, youthful and almost hypnotic, the blue of OnePlus' super flagship will be able to capture anyone's attention.
The splendid shade chosen by the Chinese company, however, is not the only aesthetic plus of this smartphone. First of all we have a glass back cover which features a wonderful matte finish. There are two advantages that this solution brings with it: the grip is excellent - indeed, it will seem almost rubberized - and the fingerprints do not remain annoyingly engraved on the device.
Add to this a weight of only 199 grams - few if we compare OnePlus 8 Pro with other top of the range - and an aspect ratio that makes it easier to grip.
The display is equally convincing. We are faced with a 6,78-inch Fluid AMOLED with QHD + resolution and an update frequency of 120 Hz which adds fluidity to OnePlus's already great operating system. However, all the other features connected to the 8 Pro screen are amazed: there are the HDR boost, the night mode, the one dedicated to reading and a lot of settings that allow you to adapt the display to your tastes.
I also point out the presence of the fingerprint reader under the screen which turned out to be precise and lightning-fast. You do not like? No problem. You can opt for unlocking by face recognition.
OnePlus 8 Pro anteprima: hardware al top
Under the body we find a hardware to the last cry. Nothing unexpected to tell the truth. In fact, OnePlus has always presented itself on the market with the latest technological innovations and OnePlus 8 Pro certainly is no exception. On board we therefore have the Snapdragon 865 processor with Adreno 650 GPU, 8 or 12 GB of RAM, 128 or 256 GB of internal memory.
Do not miss Wi-Fi 6 and 5G, two standards that make the device future-proof.
The Chinese company also managed to amaze me with the audio sector of its new smartphone. We have in fact a stereo audio, with a speaker located on the lower side and the large ear capsule located instead on the upper profile. The volume is high, the sound is full and very definitive and there is even the Dolby Atmos certification that makes OnePlus 8 Pro perfect for enjoying video content.
On the battery front we have 4.150 mAh and technology Warp Charge 30T for fast charging, flanked by the new one Warp Charge 30 Wireless to quickly charge the battery even without wires. On the duration I don't want to give too much balance because I prefer to put it to the test again but for now I can tell you that I had no difficulty in making it to the end of the day.
Photographs that amaze
I've always liked OnePlus smartphones but there has always been something between us that didn't work. And that something is called a "camera". Although the photographic sector of Chinese devices has improved over time, I have never experienced theWOW effect. In short, beautiful images but not spectacular and often not up to the standard of other top of the range.
But now that the price has risen and that nothing seems to differentiate Pete Lau's company from other famous brands, it was necessary to take a decisive step forward. And so it was.
On paper we have four rear objectives:
- the main one from 48 MP with Sony IMX689 sensor (same as Oppo) with OIS and EIS;
- il 8 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom;
- the ultra-wide angle of 48 MP;
- la color filter 5 MP chamber.
In short, the numbers are not lacking but neither is the quality. In these days of testing I got great shots during the day, amazing photographs at night and even some particularly interesting macros. In short, he really doesn't lack for anything.
Also excellent the 16 megapixel front camera which, moreover, is surrounded by a light strip of LEDs so you can easily locate it and look at the right point before taking a selfie.
OnePlus 8 Pro preview: and the flaws?
Well, I didn't find any. At least for now. OnePlus 8 Pro seems to have everything I want from a smartphone but it is too early to draw conclusions. In fact, I reserve the right to try it a little longer before I understand if it is really that perfect.
