There is a major restriction that will limit file size reduction. Read on to find out how to make Modern Warfare's storage footprint more manageable.
How to uninstall modes
Unlike the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Modern Warfare, the modes are uninstalled outside of gaming on PC. The whole process is handled on the Battle.net launcher, which means opening the app is your first step.
- Make sure Call of Duty: MW is selected in the left panel under Partner Games.
- Once highlighted, select the Options drop-down menu at the top left of the window. It's next to the Redeem Code selection.
- From the drop-down menu, select the second to last option, Modify installation. A new window will appear.
- Once again, select Edit Installation from the Game Content category.
- Uncheck the content you want to uninstall. Campaign, multiplayer. and special operations are available.
- Warzone is required and cannot be uninstalled.
- Select Confirm after unwanted profiles have been turned off.
- Start update will no longer be grayed out. Click on the button to finalize your choices.
While the Warzone requirement keeps Modern Warfare at a significant size, valuable disk space can be reclaimed by taking advantage of the uninstall mode feature. Personally, I was able to go from 230 GB to 166 GB by removing the Campaign and Special Ops modes. I'm more than happy to get 64GB of space back, as there are plenty of titles coming up that will fight for that.
Today, Modern Warfare can revert to 250GB SSDs. At least, until subsequent seasons inflate the install size.
