We tried Micro Merlin, The first electric scooter of the Swiss company specializing in scooters. Did it really live up to our expectations? Let's try to explain it to you in ours review.
For those of you who don't know Microphone let's take a short step back. It is a Swiss company founded in 1996 and specialized in the production of scooters. In short, not exactly the latest arrivals. Merlin is Micro's first electric scooter and is the result of these 20 years of experience. So let's try to understand what it offers and what distinguishes it from the competition.
Micro Merlin Review: Technical Specifications
At first glance this Micro Merlin it doesn't look particularly different from the competition but there are actually tons of things that make it extremely comfortable to use. The design unites it to all the other scooters on the market. The technical characteristics make the difference.
First of all the handles. I know, you are thinking “they are handles, what do you want them to have in particular”. In reality they are very comfortable and designed for prolonged use, a fundamental aspect considering that it is one of the few points of contact you have with the scooter.
The wheels are extremely robust and full, without an inner tube (this means that they are not subject to punctures) and the suspensions are designed to minimize the stresses of the ground especially when you are on roads with bumpy asphalt or some small dirt track.
Then we have the lights, LED, front and rear and automatic. This means that they turn on by themselves as soon as the sun goes down or if you are inside a tunnel or box.
All this without sacrificing the weight which is quite contained. In fact, we are talking about 11 kg for a vehicle that can be easily folded and transported by hand (initially you will find it difficult to close it but once you understand how to do it, it will be child's play)
The low weight does not imply a low autonomy. In fact, the battery allows you to travel 25 km. And when does it discharge? In 3 hours you have 100% battery again.
Also consider that compared to other electric scooters Micro Merlin has a big advantage: regenerative braking. This means that when you brake you create energy which is stored to extend the range. Just like with electric cars. Alternatively, you can always brake by pressing your foot on the rear fender. In short, it is quite flexible.
It has also inherited another feature from electric cars: cruise control, which is mainly suitable when you have to drive along completely straight roads.
If you prefer manual driving, know that it reaches 25 km / h, has the accelerator on the handlebar and provides 4 driving modes depending on the type of route. You can choose the most suitable one using the display on the handlebar; display that also shows speed, battery status and temperature.
Come va Micro Merlin
Once you get on it, you will immediately notice the "softness" of the floor. Yes, because there is a small suspension on the handlebar tube but not only. The rear wheel, on the other hand, is connected to the floor through a movable joint that allows for truly remarkable comfort. Holes, dirt roads and uneven terrain of all kinds will not stop you.
The display certainly represents one of the strengths of this electric scooter; display that allows you to conveniently view all travel data. Unfortunately, the smartphone holder and a bottle cage are missing (surely I would have expected them especially if you think that this scooter is sold at a recommended price of 799 euros).
Uphill it does not struggle too much, on the contrary it behaves well. It takes a little bit to get going but all in all, with maximum acceleration it can reach 20 km / h.
Conclusions
Micro Merlin it is positioned on the market like the Ferraris of scooters. The price of 799 euro it is certainly very important but all in all justified by the solid and robust build quality, by the suspensions that allow a ride in total comfort, by the two different types of braking and by the display that allows you to keep everything under control. Perhaps we would have expected some more precautions towards the customer.
This does not mean that it is a high-level product in all respects. If you are considering the purchase of this product, know that it will be for you when you decide to use it as a means of daily transport that can accompany you practically anywhere.
