Le concept car by definition they are cars that show, often accentuating it, a new stylistic course or a new technology of a house. It had been a while, however, that we hadn't seen a concept car like this futuristic and revolutionary.
Why the Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR presented to CES 2020 it is not just a car with bold stylistic choices, and inspired by the world of Avatar, the film by James Cameron of 2009.
It is in fact the first electric car which uses a graphene battery, compostable and recyclable.
Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR: electric yes, but unconventional
Before talking about the link between the VISION AVTR and Avatar, which goes far beyond the name, let's analyze the mechanics of this concept of the Star.
For starters, the Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR has four electric motors, one for each wheel, capable of giving a power of 475 CV.
Each of these four engines can be individually managed by the car's control units.
This mechanical scheme, combined with an advanced system of torque vectoring, guarantees the best possible road holding in different situations.
Another novelty is the presence of four almost independent steering wheels. All four wheels, in fact, can reach very important steering angles, allowing the Vision AVTR to move sideways by about 30 degrees, with a "crab movement“, As defined by Mercedes itself.
The car therefore, thanks to these huge wheels and this extraordinary steering capacity, sports aunknown agility to conventional cars of the same size.
Unconventional is also the aesthetics, totally innovative and inspired by the creatures that populate Pandora, fluid and almost animalistic.
However, do not forget the comfort and convenience of the occupants who, sitting on real armchairs, will be able to enjoy the comfort and silence of the VISION AVTR.

The first 100% recyclable car
The Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR is not only luxurious and agile, it is also environmentally friendly, not only because it is electric.
The VISION AVTR is indeed the first car that renounces the use of metals and mineral resources such as iron, lithium and platinum.
Instead, use a very modern one battery that uses graphene-based organic cell chemistry.
This new technology allows the 100% compostability and recyclability of the battery pack, and also brings a great advantage.
Graphene-based batteries, in fact, have one significantly higher energy density to lithium batteries, all with extremely reduced weights and dimensions.
The VISION AVTR is in fact able to extrapolate from its extremely compact battery a capacity of 110 kWh, capable of giving the car a autonomy of over 700 km.
This type of battery is also capable of being recharged using automated and inductive technologies, capable of recharge full capacity in just 15 minutes.
Total connection between driver and car
Another aspect on which Mercedes is investing is on the consumption of battery charge by secondary bodies.
In fact, with the increase in on-board instrumentation, it is important that even these secondary systems such as entertainment, lighting and the like absorb the least amount of energy possible.
This is why the Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR uses a technology that is inspired by the neurons of the human brain. Through a neuromorphic hardwarein fact, it is possible to connect the various devices of the car with a minimum consumption of energy.
Furthermore, these systems will not be powered by the battery of the engines, but rather by solar panels on the roof of the car.
But the VISION AVTR does not only take its cue from the human brain for its systems.
In fact, it takes up the concept of the very close connection between Na'vi, the people of Avatar, and the animals of Pandora, to allow an almost total connection between man and machine.
This technology is still in its infancy, but Mercedes believes it is possible connect via contact between the hand and a "grip" to the car.
In this way the driver can control the direction (in fact the car does not have a steering wheel), but also all the other systems directly with his own brain.

Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR and Avatar: together on the road and in the cinema
The Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR proposes a new vision on the future of mobility.
On the one hand we see solutions that we will see in series production, such as graphene battery technology. On the other hand, however, some proposals seem almost straight out of a science fiction film, just like Avatar.
In fact, the design of the car was done in collaboration with James Cameron, brilliant director of Titanic and Avatar.
Cameron in fact presented the car at the CES 2020 together with the Daimler CEO (company that controls the Mercedes brand) Hello Kallenius, and during the presentation he revealed two sneak peeks about the new Avatar 2.
The director has in fact noted that the film will be released next year, in 2021, and that it will also star the Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR that he helped design.
Curious about see her at the cinema and on the road? For both, we just have to expect!
