Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit - It Works on the Mat

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit works on the mat?

The short answer to making it work on carpet is a quick 'yes', but after a weekend with the device, I have to add a few caviets. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a truly amazing gaming experience unlike any other you'll have on the Switch or any other platform for that matter. But this novelty comes with certain limits, and the carpet is sometimes one of them. While testing the different flooring materials found in my house, I was impressed with how the kart handled them, but some caused issues.

Driving on solid carpet doesn't seem like a problem at all, especially if it's harder and denser. Even without that, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit handles most mats with ease, and I would even say all mats seem to work for the most part. However, problems can arise when switching from one type of flooring to another. So tile is good, hardwood is good, carpet is good, but going from tile to carpet can stop your run in its tracks.

Why? Not because of major design issues with Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, but simply because the kart could get stuck. A few small pieces of carpet or rug here and there might not be a problem most of the time, but sometimes my kart would get stuck just because of the angle or pattern of the carpet on the tile. The mats, especially the races stopped the most, as the kart could get stuck on the edge, with its wheels spinning unsuccessfully as they searched for something to grab.

So does Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit run on a carpet? Yes, but when building tracks try not to have too many places where the kart could get stuck due to changes in ground level or grip.
