In Super Mario Galaxy 2 , just as in the first chapter, the unlocking of the various areas is linked to specific objects, namely the stars. Within the game these stars are two hundred and forty (plus two bonuses), a first half called Superstars and collect during his first adventure between the various galaxies of the six worlds of Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the remaining half simply called stars and although the last one is not necessary for the collection of green stars, these can be taken indiscriminately by Mario or Luigi but only after concluding a first time the story and collect all 120 gold stars. In this way a special comet star will pass over all the galaxies filling them with one hundred and twenty green stars that can be collected by repeating from the beginning our path between the galaxies of the six worlds.
Within each world, consisting of a total of seven galaxies each, there are always the same identical number of Superstars, three for the first four galaxies and two in the remaining three (the green stars will be present in equal number, for each galaxy, but in obviously different positions). Each seventh galaxy also has a Megastell controlled by Bowser or his son, an object that will be necessary to unlock the next world. The account obviously lacks Superstars, this will be unlockable only by collecting the Comet Medals, one for each galaxy that will unlock the seventh World called Special. Once collected all the stars, both gold and green, we will unlock the Legendary Galaxy, the last galaxy of the seventh world, a unique and very complicated galaxy whose completion will allow us to finish 100% all the objectives within Super Mario Galaxy 2 .
In this guide we'll give you information and details on where all the Superstars and green stars in each individual galaxy are, plus the positions of the comet medals needed to unlock the Seventh World and the Legendary Galaxy.
GALAXY SPACE STORM (WORLD 05) - SUPERSTARS: 3 (75 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 3 (75 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first and second Superstars of this galaxy will be obtained simply by completing the two levels from which it is composed. The third and last Superstar is instead linked to a handyman challenge that this time will want to have a Robopunta all to himself - reach the Robopunta on the opposite side of the planetoid and let us chase until you reach the handyman avoiding that our enemy is eliminated.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located on the first planetoid of the galaxy, in the space in the center between the second and third rotating platform over the first half of the planet.
Green stars: The first green star is located in the first level of the galaxy, positioned above the Megastella lancio - to pick it up it will be enough to take advantage of the Manina stars. The other two stars are instead present in the second level, the first one in the open space that can be reached by exploiting the bubbles, while the second one is on the oblique orange wall that joins the low and the high zone - you have to slide on it from above to pick it up.
GALAXY RENA SDRUCCIOLA (WORLD 05) - SUPERSTARS: 3 (78 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 3 (78 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first two Superstars are as usual directly related to the two levels present in the galaxy, the first given to us by the boss Sabbiocertola and the second conquered after a gravitational game and a crazy race on the sand. The third Superstar is instead linked to a comet challenge that will bring us back to the Sabbiocertola area with the task of defeating it by having a single piece of life from our side, which means that it is enough to suffer a single damage to lose the challenge.
Comet Medal: Once we reach the second Planetoid of the galaxy we continue upwards passing the quicksand and reach the position of the Fire Flower. A short distance away is the comet medal resting on the ground, but well protected by several Bombagalli.
Green stars: The first green star is more of a leap of faith, in order to pick it up we'll have to jump down from the second planetoid following the path marked by the last waterfall of sand on the right side of the planet - at the bottom of the air we'll find the star. The second and third green stars are instead positioned along the chute, the first one a few meters from the beginning and positioned on the left edge, the second one on the right in the Rhomp area.
GALAXY THRILL BOILING (WORLD 05) - SUPERSTARS: 3 (81 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 3 (81 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the three Superstars will be obtained at the end of the fight against Prince Pikante, the boss of this galaxy. The other two Superstars instead are directly connected to two challenges, the first one is given by a comet that will put us in Prince Pikante's planetoid with 45 seconds to destroy 30 Octopomba thanks to the help of several Iris Stars and the second one is linked to the Loitering Monkey, a new skating challenge in which we will have to collect more than six hundred points in the canonical forty seconds - in order to do so we must necessarily burst all the yellow balloons (50 points each) and some green ones (10 points each) avoiding at all costs those purple ones that will send us legs to the air.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located in the second planetoid, on the opposite side of the landing point with the flight from the Megastella launch - we perform a powerful long jump so that we can also collect astrocrafts with a gliding flight due to the planet's gravity.
Green stars: The first green star is located in the mouth of the volcano in the first planetoid - to collect it we freeze the planet and use the power of the cloud fungus to reach and collect the star. The second green star is located a short distance from the comet medal, on a platform to the right of the medal. The last green star is instead on the third planetoid, high above the fifth lava pool on the right - to reach it we need to make the best use of the cloud fungus, there are no other systems.
GALAXY WANDERING SPECTRA (WORLD 05) - SUPERSTARS: 3 (84 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 3 (84 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: Two of the three Superstars are the obvious prizes for completing the two basic levels that make up this galaxy, while the third star is available using the Maxistella launch positioned before the moon. By flying from this Maxistella we'll reach a path of pink bricks on which we'll run and jump to reach our goal, obviously avoiding the Polyboo to kill us first.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located on the pink path, just a stone's throw from the Maxistella launch to the secret Superstar, impossible not to see it.
Green stars: The first green star is located beyond the swamp in the second planetoid, while the second one is located just under the moon, to catch it just swing on the left. The third and last star is finally positioned in mid-air in the last planetoid, to pick it up you just have to wait for the "book" to open and from the top of it you have to make a pirouette to increase the flow rate of the jump.
GALAXY MAGNET (WORLD 05) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (86 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (86 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the two Superstars in the galaxy is the prize we get when the challenge is completed, while the second is a hidden challenge where we have to destroy a series of boxes on behalf of the Handyman - a type of challenge already faced on behalf of Gearmo in the First World Attraction Galaxy. The location of the challenge can be reached by passing the green tube next to the two coins in the first large room of the first planetoid.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located on the second planetoid, positioned on the ground under the first platform with gravity opposite to that of the room. Just wait for gravity to reverse to collect the medal without being damaged by electricity.
Green Stars: The first of the two green stars is located in the far right corner of the second large chamber of the first planetoid. To collect it we use the two gravitational fields opposite to those of the room and we perform a wall jump with rebound to reach our goal. The second green star is in the chamber with the first Superstar, located in the lower right corner - to pick it up we wait for gravity to change, then we make a long jump towards the wall to reach the star and a second to move away from the electric field.
GALAXY FLIGHT CHALLENGE (WORLD 05) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (88 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (88 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first Superstar in the galaxy will be automatically obtained when the race is completed by hanging on the Alapinta, while for the second we'll have to wait for a Lollorito challenge that will only take us back to the galaxy to have to play the same exact race as before, but with three more opponents directly on the field to beat. The Superstella will be the prize for the first one to cross the finish line in the shape of the sun.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located inside a glass dome a few meters from the finish line, but in order to collect it you must pass through all five intermediate portals from the start to the finish line of the race in flight.
Green stars: The first of the two green stars is practically below the finish line, so we start the race and swoop in, pick up the star and immediately pull up the Alapinta to avoid the lava monsters. The second star is instead in the inner chamber where objects fall from the ceiling, let's throw ourselves completely to the left and locate the star beyond the clouds of smoke to pick it up.
BOWSER JR. BUNKER (WORLD 05) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (90 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (90 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the two Superstars in this galaxy is obviously the Megastell used by Bowser's son to power his boss of the galaxy, Torrattacco - just beat the enemy to get it. The second is the typical challenge we've seen before with several bosses, we'll have a single notch of life available and we'll have to hold on to it to beat Torrattacco.
Comet Medal: The last comet medal of the fifth world is in the fourth planetoid, the one with the blue platforms interspersed with enemies. We use the power of the mushroom cloud to overcome the enemies and collect the medal simply by jumping on it.
Green stars: The two green stars of the level can only be collected using the cannons. The first one is on top of a target, while the second is on the left of the third world - for both of them we take aim and throw ourselves on them to pick them up.
The penultimate of the base worlds allows us to raise our collection of Superstars or Green Stars to an impressive 90 out of 120, with only thirty left to complete our adventure. The medals won will rise to a total of 35.
MONSTROUS LAVA GALAXY (WORLD 06) - SUPERSTARS: 3 (93 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 3 (93 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first and second Superstars are the rewards we will receive for the completion of the two levels that make up this galaxy, while the third Superstar is linked to a challenge from the Hazy Monkey that will be activated by descending into the green tube to the left of the starting platform of the second level. The challenge consists of performing 5,000 points in a particular Bowling Challenge where Mario - with the power of the Mushroom Rock - will be the ball and the Birispini will be the targets (each worth 100 points). The challenge is not very difficult, but still very fun, so repeating it will not be a problem.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is on the planetoid with Magmabruto Bros all around. The coin is placed on a small ball of rock that we will have to reach quickly and just as quickly move away to prevent the Magmabruto from attacking it by killing us or eliminating the ball and medal.
Green stars: The first two green stars of the galaxy are both in the first chapter, both not far from two different Maxistella launch - we run towards the green star changing our flight path to pick them up. The third green star is in the second level, in the N-shaped planetoid to be precise.
OLD GALAXY GEAR (WORLD 06) - SUPERSTARS: 3 (96 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 3 (96 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first Superstar of this galaxy is the prize we get at the end of the level, while the other two Superstars are linked to a greedy Sphincter and a purple comet challenge. For the first one we'll have to give the Snowflake thirty coins, turning it into a completely new planet to complete as a level by itself. The third Superstar instead is connected, as mentioned, to a purple comet challenge in which we must collect 100 purple coins in the first planetoid of the galaxy.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located at the top of the second toothed wheel of the last planetoid where the Superstar will also be located at the top. To collect the medal we jump over the washer and from there we perform a pirouette jump into the air to reach the necessary height.
Green Stars: The three green stars are obviously all obtainable in the first and only level of the game. The first green star is located above the second giant gear of the first planetoid - to pick it up we perform a powerful pirouette jump to increase the height of the jump even more. The second and third stars are located in the last planetoid, the first on the left of the first gear at the bottom near the Sfavillotto Ghiotto and the second on the right of the planet can only be achieved with a long and well-targeted jump since it is completely in the void.
NOSTALGIA FORTRESS GALAXY (WORLD 06) - SUPERSTARS: 3 (99 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 3 (99 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first Superstar in the galaxy is obviously in the hands of the boss we will have to face, King Womp. The other two Superstars will be conquered, respectively, in a second level without bosses but with the obligation to collect five silver stars and in a two-minute race in which we will have to complete a course using a lot of power given by the mushroom cloud.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located inside the stepped pyramid before the Twomp - to reach it we slide along the pole.
Green stars: The first of the three green stars is a short distance from the start, after the first ascent we go ahead and jump over the edge to the right. The star is located halfway between two walls. The second star is at the top of the pyramid and to be caught we will have to use the upper edge of the Womp as a springboard. The third and last green star is finally very high and can only be reached by using the mushroom Cloud - we will have to use all three clouds starting our flight from the point where the second Twomp is located.
METEOROLOGICAL CHALLENGE GALAXY (WORLD 06) - SUPERSTARS: 3 (102 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 3 (102 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first Superstar in this galaxy will be awarded upon completion of the level, while for the second we'll have to wait for a comet to pass through and take us back to the galaxy with the task of completing the level with a single notch of available energy - one damage and the challenge will end. The third and final Superstar will be achieved by feeding the Greedy Snowflake on the frozen planetoid in order to activate a new challenge against Flaming Buzzodragon. The system to beat the enemy is the same one used in the past, the only thing you have to pay attention to is to touch only the six bumps or you will find yourself on fire.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is found in the second planetoid, the one with the lava pools. The coin is located on top of one of the largest pools, but you only need to do a pirouette jump to reach it.
Green stars: The three green stars of the galaxy are located above three glass domes in the pumpkin-shaped planetoid, the one with the lawn and rocks inhabited by the Talpone Soldato and the last one, above the shrine that protects the Superstar of the level.
GALAXY SUDDEN GLOW (WORLD 06) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (104 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (104 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the galaxy's two Superstars is the obvious prize for completing the level, while the second will be won thanks to a comet challenge that will give us one minute and twenty seconds to defeat thirty Octopuses - we make a lot of use of the stars in this challenge, not only to stun the enemy, but also to better locate the floor below us that darkness will continue to make disappear.
Comet Medal: The coin medal is located exactly on the opposite side of the Megastella launch, to collect it just continue on the opposite side of the area and use the balloon fruit to inflate Yoshi and recover the medal.
Green Stars: The first green star in the galaxy is located exactly above the Megastella launch inside the closed planetoid. The second star, on the other hand, is next to a platform very close to the Superstar of the level - all you have to do to pick it up is drop down from the platform and fall on it.
UNDERGROUND HOLLOW GALAXY (WORLD 06) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (106 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (106 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the two Superstars in the galaxy is the prize that will be awarded upon completion of the level, while the second will be put up for grabs by the Slumdog Monkey in his typical points challenge: 10,000 points in no more than three minutes with the elimination of an Algocchio rated fifty points, the Boa fish three hundred and the Boo hundred - the coins will then give another 100 points and the 1UP fungus placed in the place of the comet medal a thousand.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located in a secondary tunnel on the left in the main submarine tunnel, so we always stay on the left not to miss it.
Green stars: The first green star is located next to the Megastella launch at the end of the underwater tunnel, just do not run the pirouette on the star to fall down on the platform where the star is. The second star is located in the Algocchio cave, just behind a column.
GALACTIC BOWSER GENERATOR (WORLD 06) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (108 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (108 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the two final Superstars of the Sixth World is obviously the Megastellar that we will get by beating our arch-enemy Bowser for the third and last time. The second Superstar is the prize for a time trial in the level given by a comet. We will have to repeat the entire level except for the final duel against Bowser keeping the timer always active and to do so we will have to collect the green clocks placed in various points of the level, nothing new, but still all sufficiently complicated.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located in the seventh planetoid, the one in the base shape of the castle. The medal is on the lake of lava, to pick it up just perform a double jump forward and then back to avoid dying under the lava.
Green stars: The first of the two green stars is inside the third planetoid lava lake, on the opposite side of the Megastella launch. The second green star is the most complicated to reach of all the one hundred and twenty available. It is positioned very high above the planetoid in the shape of a wooden bridge, but it will be necessary to reach the Kamek at the top of the roofs and from here exploit the power of the mushroom cloud to reach the star.
And here we are at the theoretical but not practical conclusion of Super Mario Galaxy 2 . At this point our collection will stop at 108 Superstars or Green Stars and no more than 42 comet medals. The remaining twelve Superstars or Green Stars and the eight comet medals are still waiting for us in the Special World with its seven galaxies more unique than rare.
GALAXY MARIO ON MARIO (SPECIAL WORLD) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (110 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (110 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the Superstars of the galaxy will be obtained upon completion of the level, while the second is related to the passage of the purple comet that will drop 100 purple coins over Mario, all coins that we will have to recover by paying close attention to the Duplimario that will complicate our task.
Comet Medal: The comet medal of this galaxy is very easy to recover, it is located on the raised foot of Mario, above the green platforms that narrow to our passage.
Green Stars: The first of the two green stars is a little further away from the platform on which the comet medal is located, just throw yourself towards it to collect it. The second is hidden behind a green platform to the right of the hat-shaped lava sector.
GALAXY ROLLER COASTER (SPECIAL WORLD) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (112 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (112 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the two Superstars in the galaxy is the one we have under our feet and that we will unlock only after we finish the level. The second is linked to a purple comet that will usually scatter a hundred purple coins on the ground to recover within the time limit - there are more coins on the ground than we need, so if we lose less than ten let's not worry.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is in the middle of the raised rainbow street - just stand in the middle to pick it up.
Green stars: The first of the two green stars is located just above the hump that divides the transition to yellow squares, to retrieve it we run over the central hump and take a jump at the last moment towards the star. The second star, on the other hand, is in the rainbow passage, on the right side when the passage narrows from four to a single lane - to recover it, let's simply run over it by jumping over the parapet of the rainbow road.
OLD STYLE GALAXY (SPECIAL WORLD) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (114 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (114 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the two Superstars is as usual directly related to the completion of the level. The second Superstar instead will take us back to the galaxy with the same objective as before, the difficulty lies in the fact that the speed of rotation of the blocks is about twice as fast as the first completion of the level.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is located on one of the very last rotating blocks positioned just before the Superstar.
Green stars: For both green stars you will need to use the power of the mushroom cloud. The first star is at the height of the second group of rotating blocks - more or less in the middle and to the right. The second star is also on the right, but this time at the height of the rotation system that positions the blocks at an angle as well as vertically - for this star, we will have to use a couple of clouds, not a single one as for the previous star.
GALAXY CYCLONE OF ROCKS (SPECIAL WORLD) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (116 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (116 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the two Superstars is as usual connected to the completion of the level, while the second will put us in front of a time challenge, time that will start with the canonical thirty seconds increasable by collecting the clocks of points of the planetoid.
Comet Medal: The comet medal of this galaxy is located on the second block of rotating platforms, between the first two Don Boxes of the level - to collect it you have to slow down the time and run on the narrow gray platform by jumping on a second platform of equal width of the planetoid. To pick it up we will have to perform a very high jump with a pirouette to increase our elevation. The second stable instead is located halfway between the last rotated platform and the second black hole, to reach it we go to the bottom of the passage passing the Twomp and jump into the void.
GALAXY OF BOSSES (SPECIAL WORLD) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (118 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (118 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: Without a shadow of a doubt this galaxy offers the most complex challenges for obtaining both Superstars, if in our first pass we simply have to beat Dino Piranha, King Kaliente, King Talpone, Rocciosprettro and again Dino Piranha in the fiery version, but without any time limit, to get the second Superstar we will have to repeat the entire fight in the five planetoids, but no later than a maximum time of five minutes.
Comet Medal: The comet medal is on King Kaliente's planetoid, let's reach the lower half and perform a pirouette jump to pick it up.
Green stars: The two green stars of the galaxy are located respectively next to the tree on King Talpone's planet and on the outer rim of the planet of Rocciospettro - the first one won't require anything special, the second one a jump into the void.
GALAXY BLOCKS BLUE (SPECIAL WORLD) - SUPERSTARS: 2 (120 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 2 (120 OUT OF 120)
Superstars: The first of the two Superstars we will get it by completing the first time the level, for the second the goal will be the same, that is to complete the level, but to make the challenge even more complicated will be the presence of several Duplimario that will completely block the way behind us.
Comet Medal: In order to collect the comet medal of this galaxy we'll have to practically reach the highest point of the planetoid - just follow the passage to the Superstar, but continue on the left before collecting the most important loot - and from the wall jump down on the blue structure.
Green Stars: The first of the last two green stars is located to the right of the green tube, to collect it we reach the stone platform above the tube and from there we launch into the void. The second green star instead is on the right, but of the chamber where the Superstar is located, to pick it up we perform the jumps on the red walls and from the highest point we launch into the vacuum on the right to pick it up.
LEGENDARY GALAXY (SPECIAL WORLD) - SUPERSTARS: 0 (120 OUT OF 120) - GREEN: 0 (120 OUT OF 120)
To unlock the Legendary Galaxy, as mentioned before, you need to collect all the previous stars, both the one hundred and twenty Superstars and the one hundred and twenty green stars. This is the only way we'll have access to this last complicated galaxy that will provide us with the latest rewards - the 50th Comet Medal and the two Superstars bonuses.
Superstars: The first of the two Superstars bonus will be obtained automatically by completing a first time this very complicated and very long galaxy. For the second the task will be even more complicated if not even prohibitive, only the best will be able to complete this challenge, we will have to completely retrace the entire Legendary Galaxy but with a single notch of life, which means zero errors or the first wrong contact with an enemy will be Game Over.
Comet Medal: The last comet medal of Super Mario Galaxy is on the last planetoid we'll visit, just a stone's throw from the Superstar. In order to collect it you need to perform a jump into the void to follow a pirouette to gain enough height to allow us to turn left and fall back on the purple platforms.
