LG G7 Fit review: is it worth buying?

LG G7 Fit it is a difficult device to interpret. On the one hand, in fact, we have the original idea of the Korean company, that is to offer users a cheaper and certainly resized G7 ThinQ, on the other hand, however, we have a list price - 399,90 € - which will certainly penalize the device. The reason? I'll explain it to you in this one review.

A quality device

The strong point of LG G7 Fit is undoubtedly the build quality. The smartphone comes with a design very similar to the older brother from which it inherits in the first place the glass body and the metal frame. The positioning of the keys is also similar with the on and off key located on the right and the two separate volume buttons on the left. Instead, the button dedicated to Google Assistant is missing, which, however, you will not miss.

The similarities continue even once the device is turned upside down: in fact we have in the center the excellent fingerprint reader and the main camera. The bottom side is really identical to LG G7 ThinQ with the USB Type-C input in the center, the 3,5 mm jack on the left and the speaker on the right, while on the upper side we have access to the slot for the SIM and microSD.

Overall the device boasts a good grip and a decidedly ergonomic design, which will allow you to manage it with one hand. The oleophobic treatment is less satisfactory: the smartphone retains fingerprints and this will force you to use the cloth included in the package quite often. The IP68 and MIL-STD 810G certifications were absolutely promoted. What does it mean? Simple: LG G7 Fit resists water, dust and drops.

Finally satisfactory the 6,1-inch display, flanked by what the Korean company has baptized New Second Screen. In short, LG G7 Fit has the now inevitable notch, but LG's optimization will allow you to delete or customize it, while still leaving ample space for notification icons. Then the brightness is high even in sunlight and the possibility of activating it or not is very appreciable l’Always-On Display, Always-On which you can decide on the appearance and which you can deactivate during the night in order to limit energy consumption.

Old but working

LG G7 Fit is equipped with a processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, a choice decidedly in contrast to those made by the competition. We are in fact talking about a CPU designed for the top of the range but no, not this year. The Snapdragon 821 was in fact the standard in 2016, which means that it is not really brand new but still quite performant. The result? A device that it tends to behave well but occasionally gives some small slowdowns. Don't worry, this will not ruin the experience of use in everyday life. The situation is different when faced with heavy tasks. My games at PlayerUnknow's Battlegrounds, for example, put this LG G7 Fit in a bit of trouble - the device struggled to keep up and it has overheated along the right side bezel.

Nothing to say about the software instead. The marriage between Android 8.1 Oreo and LG's proprietary interface seems to be doing well: the operating system is fluid, enriched with some useful functions and graphically pleasing.

The battery is more disappointing. The 3000 mAh with which the device is equipped may perhaps be enough for those who do not use it a lot. If, on the other hand, you are used to using it a lot, get ready to recharge it already in the afternoon.

Before moving on to the photographic sector, let's spend a few words on audio. LG G7 Fit has indeed inherited from the older brother the Boombox speaker which allows him to use the internal space as a sounding board to amplify the bass. The result is absolutely remarkable and certainly above average. For headphones lovers, on the other hand, there is the DAC Quad Hi-Fi a 32 bit which will allow you to enjoy your favorite playlists while counting on a really good sound quality.

Camera to improve

The main camera is often the Achilles heel of mid-range smartphones, and the LG G7 Fit is no exception. THE 16 megapixel rear camera, accompanied by autofocus, 4x digital zoom and F / 2.2 aperture, behave pretty good during the day and, in general, in good lighting conditions, but it loses its appeal in the dark with a level of detail that drops dramatically. Nothing can in these cases artificial intelligence which I enjoyed during the day.

Not particularly captivating is the front camera that occasionally gives poorly defined selfies. Also present is the Portrait mode which, however, is not particularly “intelligent”. What does it mean? That my selfies wearing a pair of headphones see blurry even the latter despite being exactly on the same plane as me and clearly part of me at that moment.

Finally, I would like to point out a very popular function, that is QLens. What is it for? Simple: you take a picture and he looks for a match on Amazon or Pinterest. You can also scan QR codes without using another application.

LG G7 Fit: buy it or not?

The LG G7 Fit problem I anticipated at the beginning of this review: the cost. 399,90 euros seems a lot if you think that on Amazon you can now find LG G7 ThinQ for less than 450 euros. In conclusion, the worst competitor of the G7 Fit is its big brother.

Yes, it's true, even the price of this smartphone is destined to go down, but the competition is decidedly fierce and carving out an interesting slice of the market will be really difficult.
