Using Modern Warfare's new graphics engine and integrating Warzone can make Black Ops Cold War feel like a mechanical and graphical reboot. However, leaks shortly before the official reveal indicate that the 2020 title will be a narrative sequel to the original Black Ops.
What is Black Ops Cold War about?
By COD Tracker, a leaked description of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War makes it clear that the game is a sequel: “The iconic Black Ops series is back with Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War - the direct sequel to it. original and fan favorite, Call of Duty®: Black Ops. Locations include "East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB Headquarters and more."
The plot description also states that the classic Black Ops protagonists will return: “As elite members, you will follow in the footsteps of a dark figure named Perseus who is on a mission to destabilize the global balance of power and to change the course of history. Immerse yourself in the dark center of this global conspiracy alongside iconic characters Woods, Mason and Hudson and a new group of agents who attempt to stop an emerging plot.
When did Black Ops Cold War unfold?
Followers of the Black Ops lore will recall that the original game is set between 1961 and 1968. While Black Ops 2 was the series' first jump into the future, the second installment also featured a number of flashback missions with Mason, Hudson and Woods. during the last years of the Cold War from 1986 to 1989. According to the leaked description, "Black Ops Cold War will plunge fans into the depths of the volatile geopolitical battle of the Cold War in the early 1980s."
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's place in the timeline will certainly make more sense after the full reveal on August 26, leading up to the (also leaked) release date of November 13.
