Episode 7 of the section "HOW TO TAKE BETTER PHOTOS WITH IPHONE”Where I tell you about tips and tricks on photography with the iPhone. In this episode I tell you about how to take pictures in black and white, giving you advice on composition and how to apply filters or edit photos you've already taken.
In this article we want to summarize some key points of this shooting mode that you must always keep in mind to improve your shots. Let's start:
Black / White Mode on iPhone
iPhone already has integrated Black / White mode both in real time (from the camera app directly) either in post production, and then applying the same filter from the app Gallery. So don't worry if you have a shot that you'd like to turn black / white, just search for it and edit it!
Obviously, if you are a beginner, I recommend that you use it directly from the app so that you can notice it directly at glance whether the shot is actually interesting or not if taken in this mode!
The basic rule
Usually the general rule says that the best black / white compositions are those where there is one strong presence of contrasts: and therefore with direct light which in turn creates sharp shadows. Recommended for example in the afternoon where the sun creates interesting light areas, and very elongated shadows. Guaranteed effect!
The composition
In the composition of the photo, avoid entering too many subjects, too many details or non-symmetrical lines. A good effect results using still life (hence objects) from the regular shape: let's think for example of architectural structures, alleys, particularly tall buildings and so on.
Of course, you can change the contrast directly using the camera app by going to adjust the exposure in order to enhance the contrasts and thus grab a photo in a workmanlike manner.
Perspective and "silhouette"
As mentioned, light and regular lines are the basis of the composition for a good black and white photo. For this another tip is to take advantage of the perspective of the environment that surrounds you, and it does not matter if there is also the human element involved because often, seizing the right moment, the final effect is decidedly pleasant.
Instead, by putting a human (and not) subject in the foreground and against the light, you can get the famous silouette effect which always causes a sensation and that with the excellent iPhone sensors will give you an always interesting shot.
You can also useand third party apps like Snapseed and Lightroom, but the iPhone's Camera and Gallery app is more than enough to get really great results in black / white photographs.
